We normally use an infrared temperature gun, thermocouples are a pain cause you have to weld in a bung. I don't have the numbers anymore, but it is noticable enough to feel with your hand when it is on the dyno.

We had similar results on our Lotus Elise/Exige headers where the outlet was too small and causes it to heat up a lot at the collector. The ceramic coatings we have also make a big difference in temperature reduction. They are inside and out which offers twice as much insulation and protection.

Removing the heatshield around the shaft will not cause any problems.

We have prototyped and tested all of our designs on cars here at our shop. We have had more than one GS430 come in to prototype and test fit over the 2 years that we have been making these, as well as SC430s (same header). We have customers here running for 2 years with the heatshields removed with no issues.
with that being said, i can go forth and cut the heat shield for the steering shaft. My friend did tell me that after removing the heat shield ( which acts like a barrier for the shaft, where it joins ) if it does heat up it will seize.

Alsoo i noticed you guys might have ti change the exhaust gaskets too.

totally forgot to update you guys on the headers lol.

put them in, noticed it was rubbing the heat shield.

ended up cutting the heatsheild, alot alot more play and steering is awesome! (no more rubbing!!)

car def has more pull. no solid numbers or anything yet. but i did notice my mpg get worse.,..

so before the header install i got 11.3 which in my point of view is pretty bad.
after i installed the headers i got 9.2 mpg.....

on top of that i did a tune up also, new plugs new oil this that and what not.. anyone know why im running only 9.2mpg

welcome....for some reason my flange on the passenger side doesnt fit correctly where the car bolts to the header. i should have installed the flex couplings i bought from him but i didnt and i have been trying to fix this exhaust leak without rewelding the flanges. my issue i dont think is with the header but with the fact that i have been scrapping the exhaust thus pulling on the flange joints and stretching out so to say

^^ sorry for being a noob but which exhaust tube is bank 2?

I just opened the correct headers (I think they are, don't really know how to confirm) and the welds seem to be worse than the original set I got =/ much thicker and sloppier. I'm also still missing the 10mm bolt that I didn't get from the original set of headers.

is there any way I can check if I will be having exhaust leaks before I get these installed??

The best way to prevent it from leaking at the outlet flange is to install them with new outlet gaskets and use a little Copper color silicone on both sides of the gasket. When tightening, alternate between bolts to make sure the flanges tighten evenly.

These headers will wake up the 430. Drive carefully... you might need an LSD to tame it. My rear 285 wheels will break loose easily even with LSD.

Yes, definitely. I have the SS headers though...but same difference. The 430 really does well with headers.

that is very true as the OEM 430 manifolds are super restrictive
