Default A/T fluid change

I know this has been discussed here before. How much fluid do I need and how often should I change it. I don't believe it is life of the car fluid, like the dealership has told me.

Look on the dipstick for the transmisson and read the top, which says the fluid does not need to be changed except for unusual use cars.
And the owners manual says the same thing.
And I just had mine changed, flushed, all the old out and all new in, just two days ago at about 30,000 miles. I don't expect to have it done again, regardless of how long I have it.

Lexus dealers want way more service done ($$$) than the factory feels the need to recommend. And they were going to charge me $170, until I reminded the service rep he had quoted me $110 when I made the appointment. Including the T4.

I wonder how many Lexus owners even ask, or look at the bill.

From what I've learned, the filter is just metal mesh screen (much like those on a screen door), and it really doesn't need to be serviced, unlike other cars that have felt A/T filters. If you change out your ATF regularly, it'll stay clean, and you can avoid dropping your pan. If your ATF fluid is rather dirty now (brown or black color), just do some sequential ATF drain and refills (2 or 3), then do a ATF drain and refill once every oil change until it gets a nice raspberry/strawberry red color.

But since you asked, I believe it's 18 bolts that holds the A/T fluid pan. To make a new gasket, use some blue RTV liquid gasket, as it's supposed to be the best for this application.
