Post Official F-Sport Performance Air lntake Thread

Hello Everyone. So I’ve been meaning to post this months ago and thought this would be a valuable resource to have here on ClubLexus rather than everyone asking questions here or there about performance gains and legality and sound and what-have-you. Below I have gathered all the information regarding the Lexus F-Sport Performance Intake from Lexus Corporate and one of our more popular vendors, Sewell Lexus. Below is also information from the California Air Resources Board and with it a copy of Executive Order D-628 regarding the Intakes effectiveness of the pollution control system. This isn’t a comparison of other intakes but rather an informational post on the Lexus-specific aftermarket part.

Now, I know everyone is going to chime in on how they feel about the entire Intake System but it boils down to it being subjective and there are very few of us who actually install a part and go test our increase/decrease in performance. Lexus claims a 3% HP increase which is obviously not enough to notice. So with that in mind, please keep comments positive or informative.

F-Sport Performance Intake
Breathing improved. Wield more horsepower with an F Sport Performance Air Intake that draws cooler, denser air from near the headlights. The kit replaces the bottom half of the Lexus filter enclosure with a custom intake that generates a throatier sound and a small increase in rear-wheel horsepower. The filter assembly feeds the engine throttle body through a polished, clear-coated aluminum tube displaying a machined-aluminum F Sport logo. The high-flow, low-restriction air filter can be cleaned and reused for the life of the vehicle. The entire F Sport-engineered assembly is compatible with stock engine controls and, unlike many performance intakes, meets California Air Resources Board requirements, making it emissions-legal in all 50 states.

California Air Resources Board (ARB)
According to Aftermarket Part Exemptions (except Catalytic Converters)
http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/amquery.php

Exempted parts are add-on or modified parts that have undergone an ARB engineering evaluation. If the part or modification is shown to not increase vehicle emissions, it is granted an exemption to emission control system anti-tampering laws. This exemption is called an Executive Order (EO) and allows the modification to be installed on specific emission controlled vehicles. Every Executive Order part or modification has an assigned number that can be verified by Smog Check stations, BAR Referee stations, or by the ARB.

Add-on and modified parts without an Executive Order after December 31, 2011 will cause the vehicle to fail the visual portion of the Smog Check inspection.

For more information about add-on and modified parts, or aftermarket catalytic converters, please contact ARB's Public Information Helpline at (800) 242-4450 or via email at (helpline@arb.ca.gov)

To obtain a hard copy of an executive order, you must provide the Executive Order number. Please contact Office of Legal Affairs (916) 322-2884 for all hard copies.

DEFINITIONS
•Air Cleaner Modification - modifications to the air cleaner and/or its housing.
•Air Filter/Intake Modification - open element air filters, modifications to the air flow intake tract, heat risers/preheat ducts.

EXECUTIVE ORDER D-628
Relating to Exemptions Under Section 271 56
of the California Vehicle Code

F-Sport
F-Sport Performance Air lntake

Pursuant to the authority vested in the Air Resources Board by Section 27156 of the Vehicle Code; and Pursuant to the authority vested in the undersigned by Section 39515 and Section 39516 of the Health and Safety Code and Executive Order G-02-003;
IT IS ORDERED AND RESOLVED: That the installation of the F-Sport Performance Air
Intake, manufactured by Toyota Racing Development and marketed by F-Sport, 19001 South Western Avenue, Torrance, California 90501, has been found not to reduce the effectiveness of the applicable vehicle pollution control systems and, therefore, is exempt from the prohibitions of Section 27156 of the Vehicle Code for 2006 through 2008 model year Lexus IS250 and IS350 passenger cars equipped with either a 2.5L or 3.5L engine. The F-Sport Performance Air lntake includes a modified lower air filter housing and air intake tubing from the stock air filter housing lid to the stock throttlebody. No other modifications are required for installation other than the replacement of the stock lower air filter housing and intake tubing with the F-Sport unit. The stock mass air flow sensor is attached to the stock air filter lid and is not modified during installation.

This Executive Order is valid provided that the installation instructions for the F-Sport Performance Air lntake will not recommend tuning the vehicle to specifications different from those submitted by the device manufacturer.

Changes made to the design or operating conditions of the F-Sport Performance Air Intake, as exempt by the Air Resources Board, which adversely affect the performance of the vehicle's pollution control system shall invalidate this Executive Order.

This Executive Order shall not apply to any F-Sport Performance Air Intake advertised, offered for sale, sold with, or installed on a new motor vehicle prior to or concurrent with transfer to an ultimate purchaser.

Marketing of the F-Sport Performance Air lntake using any identification other than that shown in this Executive Order or marketing of the F-Sport Performance Air lntake for an application other than those listed in this Executive Order shall be prohibited unless prior approval is obtained from the Air Resources Board.

This Executive Order does not constitute any opinion as to the effect the use of the F-Sport Performance Air lntake may have on any warranty either expressed or implied by the vehicle manufacturer.

This Executive Order is granted based on previously submitted emission test data from Toyota Racing Development (D-425-21) on a 2008 model year Toyota xB with a 2.4 liter engine (8TYXV02.4BEB, LEV II LILEV). The emission test results with the TRD Cold Air Intake installed were below the applicable certification emission standards. Examination of the OBD II system, showed no effect on the vehicles' OBD II system operation. The same emission and OBD II test results would be expected with the F-Sport Performance Air Intake installed on the requested vehicles. The Air Resources Board reserves the right in the future to review this Executive Order and the exemption provided herein to assure that the exempted add-on or modified part continues to meet the standards and procedures of Title 13, California Code of Regulations, Section 2222, et seq.

THIS EXECUTIVE ORDER DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A CERTIFICATION, ACCREDITATION, APPROVAL, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF ENDORSEMENT BY THE AIR RESOURCES BOARD OF ANY CLAIMS OF THE APPLICANT CONCERNING ANTI-POLLUTION BENEFITS OR ANY ALLEGED BENEFITS OF THE F-SPORT PERFORMANCE AIR INTAKE.

No claim of any kind, such as "Approved by the Air Resources Board", may be made with respect to the action taken herein in any advertising or other oral or written communication. Violation of any of the above conditions shall be grounds for revocation of this order. The order may be revoked only after a ten-day written notice of intention to revoke the order, in which period the holder of the order may request in writing a hearing to contest the proposed revocation. If a hearing is requested, it shall be held within ten days of receipt of the request and the order may not be revoked until a determination is made after the hearing that grounds for revocation exist.

Executed at El Monte, California, this 21 day of December 2007

I used to have the Fsport intake and it was very quiet. Its obviously louder than stock, but quieter than others.

I personally prefer sound to 5hp so I sold the Fsport and got a Takeda. I also live in FL so I have no issues with the legality of the intake.
