Default Performance Air Filter

What's a good drop-in performance air filter to replace the OEM one on the 250. I heard there can be problems with oil from the K&N filters? Looking to achieve a slightly deeper growl and a tad increase in hp (1-2?) if possible without affecting any sensors or reliability of the engine.

it gains added flow by reducing the filtration. I used to do the drop in filter thing but I just started swapping back to OEM

Well, thanks to the DIY from thejaperu, I ordered and got the Takeda air intake. Will install it in three weeks once I get my 3IS! Pics of the parts in my post below, and DIY is second link.

DUUUDE...first of all congrats on the car. and second....huge thanks for the big shout out!!! lol...I went to the other thread and you gave me too much credit, but thank you.

I had no idea there were oil type intakes...good to know. It's been close to three weeks now and i have no issues and huge smiles every time my foot hits the gas. I keep checking the loose hoses and there are no signs of problems. I hope this adds more comfort going into the install.

good luck!

I am seriously not here to advertise stores but best price I have found for the Takeda was $179.78 shipped from AutoAnything using a 15% coupon...that is roughly $25 cheaper than anywhere else I have found. Looking forward to using the excellent writeup by thejaperu. I know you left some hoses unclipped but could of those been zip tied anywhere in the engine bay? Thanks again!

Yup..that's how much i paid for mine.

To be honest zip tying crossed my mind. I looked at the unhooked hoses and they held their tension pretty well so i didnt see the need to zip tie them. my only concern, because the hoses are plastic, was to make sure they didnt rest on any part of that hot engine. Which they can when you bend them towards the engine but when you let go the tension springs them back into place. The one that gets pretty close is the MAF sensor. That one i had to turn the pipe a bit until i was comfortable with the position but was careful not to turn it too much to compromise the air flow. Once you install it, you'll see. I just checked the hoses this past weekend and there were no signs of burns or melted plastic.

Not like that one time i left the fuse box cover off and it landed somewhere behind the engine... sorry corolla...lol

Sounds good...I will probably look at zip tying what I can. Don't really care how ugly it is under the covers just so I don't have to worry about any future issues. I actually don't have the car yet...suppose to be delivered today and set for pickup Friday. Patience has definitely not been my virtuous

So has anybody replaced their OEM filter with a K&N, F Sport, Blitz or other? Any before/after opinions/thoughts?

I found this Cosworth filter where the website states it can be used in 2012 IS 350's. Does anybody know if it would fit a 2014 or has the air box design changed?

Edit: Or what about this Blitz filter?

So I installed the Takeda Cold Air intake and I love the resuts. More power and richer engine note. See before/after videos in my Build thread:

I recently replaced my OEM filter with a AFE Dry Pro S along with a JoeZ intake tube. I can honestly say that my car doesnt have the acceleration lag it once did.

Mind sharing the part number for the AFE? The Cosworth filter I posted above does NOT fit the 3IS.
