Default Getting "cold air" to my intake

Hey guys,

I have an intake/ wo the heat shield, and understand that i am neglecting the point of getting cold air into it. I have been looking at many new cars engine designs, and see how they are designed by having a passage way for air to enter the intake creating some type of cold air. I even saw it in the new IS's. Wanted to know if anyone created this same type of design in their GS's and wanted to see pics and hear opinions. Thanks.

Weapon R makes a "cold air box" for use with their intakes, but I thinks some folks have made it work with other brand intakes as well.
Also, another CL member, Kajukenbo, had custom built a cold air box that also includes some noise reducing materials. Here is the link to the thread regarding his project;

I know many companies make the cold air box, but I am talking about having a system where cold air is shot into the air box or too the intake from the outside. This would really make it a "cold" air intake. Right now I am defeating the purpose and am probably restricting myself.

This is the first generation of SRT CAI. The K&N cone filter is sitting ourside the engine bay right behind the passenger side fog light.

The reason it's got dis-continued is a lot of members worried the water may get sucked into the engine due to the low air filter location. There're only about 5-6 sets were sold. I have it installed for 3 years now and never had any water problems.

You should also check out cold ram air kit with weapon r intake.
I have that set up and I also have installed the ram air kit so that it takes cold air from right behind the right fog light. I had installed the cold ram air kit for few weeks now and have no problem. and since ram air kit has filter and it is connected to weapon r filter I see no problem with water being entering into the intake pipe.

Kapdori,

What differences in performance have you seen? Dramatic? Right now at low RPM's, I feel my intake without heatshield or ECU feels sluggish. I would love to hear more about your design and pics would be awsome!

I feel as though I have gained a tad more on the low end. And I had dynoed my car before and after srt intake I used to have and weapon r both tuned with s-afc and weapon r setup gave significant better gains. Also overall it smoothed out the torque and hp curve. I will try to take some pictures of my setup and post tomorrow for ya.

this pic is inside the right fog light housing. I took the fog light off to show you how I attached the hose and the filter.
