Bad alternator? Bad battery? Need quick fix.
I've got major issues going on. I was cleaning out my car getting it ready to trade it in. Tried to start it back up,just continuous clicking. I got it jump started. The next day DEAD! The car had 80k miles on it. I don't want to put a new alternator. I'd rather replace the battery.
If I replace the battery how long will it last with a bad alternator?

I'm almost positive it was a bad alternator. I remember hearing a clicking sound upon start up every 10 or so starts but it started happening more frequently. I believe this was a warning sign that the alternator was failing. I ended up just replacing the battery and I no longer own the car so I can't be 100% positive.

Was my alternator bad?
So around March I was sitting in my car listening to music parked and everything starting going in and out the lights flickering, dash gauges going wacky, music cutting in and out. The car lost pretty much all electrics like power steering and what not, tried to get it jumped it didnt do much. Got it started finally drove it home, got it to a few little shops they ran codes saying it was my alternator or battery then took it the dealership they said battery not alternator.. so I got a battery. Two weeks ago driving on a road at a light same thing flickering , no power steering etc. took it the dealership now its the alternator they said.. everywhere I have read people said they never heard of a alternator going on the 2nd gen IS. I do have 123k miles, is it normal? Or was I mislead and it could have been something else? $880 later I sure hope I did'nt get scrwed over..

if you have a lexus battery just go to the dealership to get it tested
they usually have a full 2 year warranty and then a prorate after that
they just need to pull up the repair order, date, and miles it was put in

My alternator went bad yesterday. Battery light came on. Drove on the freeway for about 15 miles before the Navi went out. Next was a plethora of lights. CEL, Cruise, VSC, TCS, Airbag.... and the list goes on. Started to pull over when car went dead. I am in an '08 350 with 60,000 miles. Alternator is covered under warranty BTW. Battery needed change too.

Its usually the alternator if you experience anything electrical acting odd, lights flickering etc. I would just get them to test the battery and run a load test on the alternator. Make sure they let you keep or at least read the slips. I just went through this with my old M5, the batteries for those are like $200-$300.
