2007 Lexus IS350... My Resonator Removed Review
Hey everyone,
I'm new here and wanted to share my thoughts on the resonator removal. I recently had my resonator removed off my is350. It does sound louder and more aggressive in tone. I also had my exhaust tips replaced due to the fact that my oem tips were showing wear at 110K miles and going.
At the shop, it took about 35 mins for the mechanic to saw of the resonator and replace it with a pipe. It took another 20 mins for him to remove my exhaust tips and weld on a similar but bigger tip on it. After all it was done, he started it up and backed it out. I didn't hear a thing as the car started. At first, I was very disappointed. It sounds exactly the same as it did before the resonator removal.
I drove it back home on WOT and checked for any differences. It was however, a tiny bit louder inside. I did notice my low end torque was hurting but my high end pretty felt a little stronger during the pulls. I got home feeling disappointing. Then it finally hits me. The mechanic never rev the engine so i didn't hear any exhaust tone at all outside while he was backing up. So, I ask my brother to rev the car for me. At first thought, I was just shaking my head knowing it would not be any difference as I didn't hear much of a difference while I was inside driving it. OMG! There is a huge difference when your outside listening to it. I was amazed?!?! I do have video clip and I assure you, it was well worth the $40 spent for the resonator removal.

its a common mod among all cars but be aware, removing the resonator is going to cause a lot of cabin noise. A lot of people who do it, often either put it back in or replace it with an aftermarket magna flow resonator (which is what I would have done).

I've had my resonator off for over a year now, when it was just paired with stock exhaust it was still pretty quiet, but like you said at a higher RPM it's noticeably louder. However when you delete the resonator and get an axle back that's when it really sounds good!!

been thinking of doing this with new F-Sport tips (the round ones, not the stock oval ones)
Not sure if I still want to spend hundreds on an exhaust when I wasn't satisfied with my two old ones, as well getting old and all .....
