So I decided to removed all my engine plastic covers...
This topic probably was discuss earlier but I decided to test it out and see if there was really any difference. I live in california and temperature here are now in triple digits. I remember cruising down on hwy 5 @ 70 mph with the ac on. I needed to pass a slower vehicle so I WOT. Interesting enough, my car felt slower and I've always blamed my ac. Now I decided to do a test with all top engine covers off and ac on. This time @ 70 mph, I could really pull. I tried it multiple times at outside temps around 100 degrees and it sure didn't feel slow. I came to conclusion that these engine covers do the job at making the engine look nice and quiet but it just stores so much HEAT. I can really feel the responsiveness now with all top engine covers removed. Especially when I'm on WOT. Has anyone ever felt or did this? I would like to hear from you guys.

I did the same (still have the engine cover on though), and have been that way for 2.5yrs. I figured it would help with overall engine bay cooling AND will allow me to access anything I need to within the bay at any time...vs having to pop those rivet-like clips up first. Oh, I tested it with my SRI initially, and I also came to the conclusion that it is louder w/o the covers.

What you're experiencing is a placeabo effect, just like how people translate the increased sound from an intake as increased performance.
In all seriousness, if you retain the stock airbox or fsport airbox, you will not receive any benefit from removing the engine covers. The boxes are sealed and receive charged air directly from a source of flow, not hot air that circulates within the engine bay. Secondly, the hood does not have any venting to direct heat.

I was actually going to thermal wrap my stock headers to see if I can bring down the temp inside the engine bay. But the headers are a pain to remove and install back on. I figure when I go PPE, I'll wrap it on those and see. Well, tonight is Wednesday night fun drag @ sac race way. If I can get off work early, I'll head there and see how well my vehicle does. Will post results if I go tonight.

Yesterday night I took my is350 for a run. I got off work late so when I entered, the lady on the counter said they were going to close so they only guaranteed one run. I took the chance and did it. Right when I lined up and got into my lane, the green light lit. I didn't even had the chance to brake torque and just gunned it. Was disappointed with the outcome. I should had taken my time but that green got me so good. Got 13.7 @ 101 mph. I wanted to another run and could had but I didn't bring a helmet and was eliminated to run again. Maybe next week I can have a good go at it.
