6-speed AT upgrade on 2001-2005 GS430
Does anyone know what it takes to upgrade an 01-05 GS430 (2nd Gen) 5-speed to a 6-speed Automatic Transmission (A761E) from the later 06-07 GS430 (3rd Gen)?
This question could also apply to other models with the same engine and transmission...

I would wager you'll need a custom driveshaft, custom wiring harness, shifter, maybe a custom transmission mount, and the appropriate ECU to control it. The ECU being the major problem given the immobilizer, likely incompatible body electronics, and wiring nightmare due to the different plugs. That said, I don't think it's worth it but it could probably be done.

It's likely the 6 speed auto would cost less considering the V160 is a couple grand by itself, not to mention the rest of the parts needed to convert the auto to a manual... the V8s were never made to be mated to a manual unlike the 2JZ.

I'd research the items the iToaster mentioned (transmission mount, driveshaft, etc.) and see if there were any changes in part numbers between the earlier and later SC430s. At least that way you have a basis from which to start testing given that the engine/body style didn't change.

Everytime I drive a LS430/SC430 I think of how fun it would be to have a 6spd auto in my GS. If you really wanna do this, start researching part numbers and wiring diagrams. I'm pretty sure it can be done.

Just throwing this out there. What about a 6 speed manual other than a v160. Has any one done that. v160's
just keep getting more and more expensive..... Gs430 should have come with a 6 manual in the first place!

I think as far as doing a 6spd auto is concerned - it would be way more cost and complexity than anyone would want.
The physical issue (while tough) would be easy compared to the electronics required to make it actually run - you'll basically need to convert to an 06 gs430 or similar ECU - and that would be a nightmare.

You will have to look for it, but I have seen talk of it.

Thanks for the link i guess id like to move car forward in technology and improve gas mileage to some extend on highway along with the other advantages of a manual, didnt want 5 speed manual but instead a 6speed manual for gearing

Also wondering if Any ecu issues would occur with respect to trouble codes? And im also wondering about mounting..in out gs430

I think from what I saw, you need tunnel mods to do the V160
If I were to do it, I might try to do a V33 or T56 instead - the rarity of the V160 scares me - from a price standpoint and difficulty finding spares.
