Default Good year for 2j swap in GS300?

Was thinking of buying a 98-05 gs 300 and doing a swap but being that they all look the same, what would be the quickest and easiest year to do the swap as far as wiring and everything goes? or does it really even matter?

Seeing how I'm putting the finishing touches on my swap now, I'll chime in. From what I know, the easiest swap is into a pre-facelift GS ('98-'00), as everything just plugs in nicely. As I understand it, later models have different body plugs that don't fit into the new ECU nicely.

Like the other member said. The 98-00 GS is the easiest swap. Mine is a 99 and the swap took 3 days from start to finish.

From what I can remember. Swap out/re-pin grey plug for orange plug. Run 1 wire to tachometer for it to work. The car should start right up if everything else is in order.

It really is a true plug and play swap. I'v swapped a mk3/4 supra, an sc300, cressida and the GS300 is by far the easiest.

A VVT-i GTE into a 93 SC300 is a nightmare on the other hand. Especially the harness.

^98-00 were also VVT-i.

The difference is the harness/electronics between the 98-00 & 01-05.

The swap is still easy on the 01-05, just a little extra wiring.

I'd love to se details on re-pinning the orange plug and where to run the one wire for the Tach (I read that the wire comes off the igniter which makes sense.

I have owned my one GS4 for 9 years and am now working on my second one as a project, however I may sell it and buy a 300 just to do this swap.

I just want to be sure I have the info before I start.

Thanks.
