Timing belt install, VVTi position? need some help
I did a few TB jobs in the past and all went smooth so I decided to attempt to do major service on this 02 GS300 I just recently acquired. I didn't do any reading or research because I assumed it would be the same process as the earlier non-VVTi 2JZ model years.
I got everything pulled, when I got to the cam gears the intake VVTi gear pulley was moving and I freaked so I asked around and was told that these have about 30* play left to right.
When I install the Timing belt, how am I suppose to set the VVT-I pulley, where is the VVti pulley suppose to be(all the way clock wise? counter clockwise how many degrees?) I read somewhere on a thread that your suppose to turn the pulley all the way clockwise until it wont move then turn the camshaft till it lines up with the mark on the back timing plate of with the timing belt off.
Id like to know the correct position where the vvti pulley is suppose to sit before I install the timing belt. thanks in advance

Yeah man, I followed the TSRM and that is what I remember doing. Turn the VVT-i pulley all the way to the right until it won't go anymore then while holding it in place, take the cam gear with the other hand and line it up with the mark on the timing backplate. Double check your crank pulley for correspondence with the cam gears one last time and you should be able to button everything up.
