Default whats are the cons of running standalone

Im having a hard time finding info on this. Besides the price and emissions issue obviously. The ecu has its own engine management section so whats the going rate to get 1 installed? What are people using and what are the downsides. I am Not looking to use one, just interested on the subject when it comes to the GS. Sorry if i missed it on the search

I'm using the AEM INFINITY on my aristo, you in the 3-3500 range with that one plus the tune, ems2 is a little cheaper. Most tunes around here range about 600.
