Question Help...I don't know which Intake to buy

CL,

I need your help...I don't know which air intake to buy for my GS4, Ingen or SRT W/ ECU included, money is not an option. I just want the best one that will give my GS4 the most power.

JR

May I suggest a combination for Injen and S-AFC II since money is not a problem for you?

Well you can't get the Injen Intake since they dont sell it for 98-00 Gs400 only Gs 430 & Gs 300. So.. I guess you will have to get the SRT W/ECU. I am in the same situation, I have a 00 GS 400 and want a intake too. I E-mailed Injen and they E-mailed me back and told me that it's in production. I think I will wait till it is released. Does anybody else no anything about the release of Injen's intake for the GS 400?

I am pretty happy with my SRT intake and ECU. I also added the Boral SS exhaust and got 27 more rear wheel horsepower. I went from 235 to 262. I put the Borla's on first and got no more RWHP, then added the SRT intake with the ECU and WOW. I am very happy with it.

marcianof, thank you for posting with actual test data. This is the ONLY way to fairly recommend a performance part. Now, you may also wish to consider how a manufacturer deals with their customers and the theory behind the part. It is fairly easy for a manufacturer to fake dyno numbers. An end user that does an independent dyno before AND after is a very good indication of a parts ability IF the part is properly installed and the engine has had time to adjust to the modification.

The SRT HFI has the most potential for power gains. These gains ARE dependent on the ECU mod that SRT supplies with the intake. Unlike the other parts on the market the SRT uses a larger diameter tube (3.5" vs 3.0") This larger tube NECESITATES the ECU mod. Other parts that use the stock MAF probably do not need the ECU modded but this is one indication of power inprovement potential.

Now, in the hands of a professional tuner, a device (like the S-AFC II on UNICHIP) can be used to develope more power but possibly putting the engine on the edge of disaster. Caution is definitely advised.

As far as more octane... if the engine is NOT detonating... more octane will usually reduce power.

Anyone can offer their opinion. This is mine. I would suggest anyone without actual tuner experience or actual test info to offer should consider NOT posting their opinion. Just MY opinion.

If you are concerned about the noise, I would suggest you to wait just a little bit longer as a new silent intake from ProLexPerformance will be available. Here are a few pictures on IS3 from PLP. The gain on IS3 is +8.7rwhp & +7.5rwtq.

I have no additional info on this intake. If you are interested, feel free to PM IS Pilot (Mike).

Yes it fits. If you notice, the fact intake tube itself remains stock. The power gain was the same with or with out the full tube.
