Default What will it take to get a GS400 in the 13s w/o F/I?

hello fellow CL members

Question: Whats it gonna take to get a GS400 into the 13s w/o Forced induction? Also, how much money will it require as well. Btw, no nitrous please

Question: Does the GS300 share the same tranny as the GS4/430 tranny?

- weight reduction
- intake
- exhaust
- LSD
- torque converter
- maybe drag slicks
- lots o' practice

There are a few GSs here that I think can come pretty close, or at least, have the cars to do so, we just need some practice.

MeanGene I think did high 13s, but I can't remember what he running.

It takes a good driver, lots of practice, a track at near sea-level elevation, cool temperatures, and these bolt-on mods to run high 13.7's@103-106mph:

torque converter, swift ecu/hfi, 3.76 LSD, exhaust, 200 lbs. of stereo equipment in the trunk but interestingly enough - no slicks

...couldn't agree with you more about the weight in the trunk. Sandbags in the spare tire area works pretty well too.

Actually, that 200lbs extra stereo weight probably hurt the 1/4 mile ET; it most definitely hurt the mph. Regarding ET, each extra 100lbs of weight typically adds ~0.1 s to 1/4 mile ET.

If he could have relocated 200 existing pounds of weight over the rear (drive) wheels, there is a chance the ET would have improved due to increased traction (part of the reason rwd drag racers relocate batteries in the trunk over the drive wheels).

I have had different results. Same with a couple of racing crews... some even went to the extent of using metal bars or weights. I do agree with you on the weight shifting since the car is nowhere close to 50/50, 52/48... the GS tend to be front heavy.

Lightbulb Additional Info - Subjective

Guys - Give me some credit for being a GREAT driver!!
Seriously, I've since removed my sub box & the trunk mounted Optima & there's a serious lack of traction without that downforce over the rear wheels. In fact, I may have to change the setting on my rear sway bar because the GS no longer exhibits neutral handling but is now understeering when I throw it into a corner at a decent rate of speed. I tend to believe that the stereo weight balanced things out - it improved traction ( hence a better launch ) but hurt once the car got up to speed. Haven't been back to the track for a while to play & it's getting hot here in Cajunland already so it'll be hard to duplicate the track conditions of my 13 second run. Besides, I MAY be going home to my domestic roots. Can U say Lingenfelter !!

I think GS400_Pusher also accomplished in achieving high 13's without forced induction?

Thanks for the help guys

-weight reduction
- intake
- exhaust
- LSD
- torque converter

I can do everything listed above but the weight reduction and slicks. I'm considering getting a gs400 and giving the gs300 over to my dad (he' d take care of that car's payment if he took that car from me), thus my interest.

I mayyyyyyy do nitrous. However, just and ONLY a 75 shot wet by NX, properly dyno tuned and a/f tuned of course.

You think SRT would be able to do the dynotuning for the car? Alas, i need to get the car 1st lol

I ran a 13.9 launching the hell out of my car. Regardless, it was a 13.9. My car is stock. I just had weight reduction. No spare tire, no floor mats, no jack.. etc. I also had on some 275's

here is me with my mods listed in my sig at 75* and a head wind.......no wind and cooler temps....I'm definately there! I'll also definately be there when I get my tranny rebuilt with the new PI TC! I'm sure my heavy *** wheels are really slowing me down!

I agree, the GS400/430 WILL definitely get into the 13's with good traction. If you had all the above mentioned mods AND headers and a tuning device (NEO/SAFC II) you will accomplish this goal no problem and you probably won't necessarily need a cool day to do it either!

That's what I'm talking about

Since I ran 14.22 on a 2.2 60ft with my STOCK LS400... I have always said a good driver in good air should be able to crack 13s with a stock GS400.

Traction is key for a good launch. I did my runs on stock 225/60-16s so the 275 dcz ran may have been all it takes. LSD will give you more traction as will drag radials.

Remember every tenth off your 60ft time is at least that and can be more than twice as much off your 1/4. So, drop that 2.2 to a 2.0 and my car would have been 13s.

A torque converter will give you more launching torque but you still need traction to put that to use.

Once the above are handled look for proven power mods such as headers and intake systems.
