Is there information on what mufflers sound good on a is250?
Seems all of the exhaust talk around here is about full axle/cat back systems. Has anyone just cut out and welded in new mufflers? Curious as to what brands would sound good on the car. I'm specifically looking for a good deep tone(like we all are) with decent volume. Thanks guys.
TBH, you're just better off buying an axle-back exhaust. A Tanabe may be what you're looking for.
Sadly the decent axle backs are out of my price range by a fair bit. Hence why I was researching simple muffler swaps. I've been looking into the Greddy Revolution RS's. Seems like the produce a nice tone on most 6cyl cars.
you can try grabbing some Vibrant resonators and welding them in place of the mufflers. I found that the Vibrant ultra quiet really helped the deep tones of my Tanabe
A while back I wanted to source some of my favorite-sounding mufflers (Greddy Evo II) and do a cut and weld onto the factory axle back. But since I could never source the canisters, I never went through with it. But many just do the axle back, as it's easier and one is able to return to stock if needed down the road.

SO personally I'm biased. I acquired a pair of Greddy Evo 2s and had my axle back custom made with 3 inch piping from the midpipe. I truly love the sound of it. Nice and deep not obnoxious. Nice startups and then it quiets down until around 2700 rpm then from there it wakes up the deep tone of the evo 2s

See my post from 2 years ago about my comments about the Evo IIs.
I feel absolutely terrible now. They are definitely a rare find as just the actual muffler themselves take into account the previous owner had just cut them all crazy so my exhaust guy had a hell of a time fabricating them to fit.
