Default Taking the 2gr-fse to new heights

Hello there fellow Lexus owners . I'm new to the forums , but I would like to share my progress with the community. At the moment I have a 2006 lexus is350 and here are the mods that I have .

Parts installed:
PPE Headers
Invidia catback
RR Racing intake
Fsport lower intake box
K&N air filter
RR racing 7200rpms tune
Fsport sway bars
Sikky swaybar links
BC Racing Coilovers
Megan racing strut tower brace (front and rear)
seibon carbon fiber hood
Nia auto design 3is front bumper conversion

Parts waiting:
ported lower intake manifold (also think about shaving the heads as well, not sure yet)
MWR Stage 3 cams lift 11.7mm, duration 272i, 272E (stock: lift 10.9mm , duration 235i, 235E)
upgraded valve springs and retainers and keepers.
Also thinking of running full e85, but that would require a custom tune .

All you need is the RR Racing RR470 Supercharger Kit to get 446 WHP

I was thinking of that , but I want to see how much power the 2grfse can make naturally aspirated.

You will probably be lucky to get another 25 to 30 to the wheels. Without forced induction, your limited. For me that's fine as I feel the IS350 stock is good enough as I barely use what I currently have!

there's a guy named Thaaanp on the forums that's making 331whp, naturally aspirated. He did some interesting upgrades that I decided to try myself (ported lower intake manifold and e85) . I just decided to go a little farther and do cams, just too see the limits of the 2gr naturally aspirated. I think eventually I will go with force induction.

Thinking of doing cams aswell but it would cost so much to ship it to Thailand . Looking forward to see your result. The 2gr-fse engine even on a stock cam is pretty good. Toyota and yamaha did well on the head. TQ stays very high on the top end. If higher lift cam can add more without losing much of the lower end it will be an awesom upgrade!

There's a core charge as well. You can either pay it and once you get the performance cams, you ship in your old cams back to get that core charge. Or if you choose not to pay the core charge , you would have to ship in your old cams before they ship you a new one. Core charge is pretty much the same price as the cams themselves .

I would think a little blend job in bowl area would be beneficial. If I had the cams out I would def pull the heads and take the next step.
Here is a tiny snapshot of the intake alignment that could aid the lower intake transition. GL.... Do you know who made the valve springs? Is this something you're installing or machine shop? Either way, heads off is best as these pull too many RPM to miss something...

the valve springs I have gotten from Monkey wrench, as well as the retainers. And I will be doing everything with my neighbor who is a very experienced mechanic and is no stranger to ported and polishing. He also mention that I should blend in the bowl for smooth transitions. Which I will most likely do!

I'm definitely excited to see the outcome of your build! I'm not sure what order you plan on doing things, but I'm certainly interested to see what kind of power you'll make with the cams and the ported intake manifold. I know these are both modifications I intend to do as well (given that a tangible performance upgrade is observed). I don't intend on going E85 on my build. If you end up dynoing with the ported manifold and cams before installing the E85 setup, that would be awesome to see!

Definitely keep us updated, and subscribed!

I'm looking forward to seeing what the MWR cams will do for the 2GR-FSE (especially with raising the RPMs closer to the 8k range). Hopefully you can get a baseline dyno before doing your next set of upgrades.

i honestly forgot to mention the baseline dyno numbers. My car is currently making 291whp. Here's the link to the dyno video.

FWIW, I looked on fleebay this weekend and there are several sets of 2GR-FSE heads on there for pretty cheap. I only say this if your port guy has a heavy hand as it would suck to get into an oil feed or water jacket and ruin a good head or have to weld it up.

Also, although Monkey has the springs, I'm still wondering who made them for them or if they're repurposed from another application? That said, is your tune looking to limit at 7.5K or ??

O/T
And where is our Solidworks person so we have a proper intake manifold??
