hesitation on down shift new gs430
drove left over gs430, I noticed as coming on to highway from entry ramp, that on kickdown
car to way too long to downshift, to the point i was concerned I would merge into traffic. My 528
bmw with only 193 hp, but with manual trans, was faster . what's up? I know that 430 is faster
on a longer distance but from 40 ish to 60 , it was slower.

If ECU wasn't reset and car had been driven slow mostly, then it's LEARNED not to downshift quick.
Plus, if you're in 5th on the ramp, then downshift isn't great with factory torque converter. Try it again while in 4th (slide shifter left).

Amen to all the above. The Lexus ECU talking to VVT-i and the trans and the throttle position sensor, etc etc, is pretty slow to drop more than one gear, which can seem like an E-T-E-R-N-I-T-Y esp when WOT would lead to downshifts all the way to 2nd. But that's not a "fault" per se, rather the design philosophy of Lexus to make shifting virtually imperceptible.............
