I get that same thing, not sure if that is common though. I always thought that was just the mechanics of the car shifting.

My sister-in-law had the same issue with her '01 ES300 and had over $7K in warranty work done to try to fix it (new transmission, ecu, etc...)

Ended up being a $50 electrical part ...but took the Lexus master mechanic almost two weeks to figure it out...after the almost 4 months of other work done (she got to keep all the new parts ). I will ask and find out exactly what the part was and post it...

Spoke with my sister-in-law and she will get back to me with the exact invoice part tonight. From what she could remember it was a sensor underneath the car that had rusted due to the loss of the cover. It was sending wrong signals to the ECU, which resulted in the jerking motion when shifting from park to reverse and back. I would bet that it is a similar problem...I remember that this was a very lenghy process for my sister-in-law (she had the RX300 loaner for about 4 months off and on...) and she was not happy. We did have to laugh at the end of the process, because she got $7K in new parts for a $25 problem (she told me that it was $25 instead of the $50 I thought it originally was).

It was the Throttle Sensor that went bad and caused the jerking motion.
