grrrrr, my inadequate flash skills cause the file to be tooo big.... so then i gave up on having it fade from pic to pic, and made it into a gif.... still tooooo big =(

here's what i got so far (this is after cutting out 2 pics, losing the fade, and standard colors instead of 256)

if anyone here can make a flash sig from 8 pics, fade from pic to pic, and keep it under 50k let me know....

well, 8 pics at 450X100 is a lot when converting into a .gif file, especially if you want to keep all the pictures at decent quality for viewing.

the fading using action tween does not take up much file space...so losing that really does not decrease the file size that much.

normally, i use only up to 3 full size 450X150 pictures for flash sigs. three full size pictures at 450X100 for flash signature usually allows me to keep the final file under 40kb after adding animations and such. to add more pictures in the mix, the dimension of the pictures must be reduced. otherwise, you would have to really reduce the quality of the pictures to like 30% which look pretty grainy and bad.

when converting from flash to .gif can make the file size a little bigger than desired as well.

if you have Flash MX, you might have the program called Fireworks which is also by Macromedia. Try using Fireworks MX to make .gif animations. it is a program designed to make .gif animations.

oh yeah, also to add, you saw the signature i did for Trendy. if you look closely at that signature, i only have two 450X100 pictures in that signature. the car is also another imported picture but at smaller size.

although the signature seems to embody a lot of stuff, the most amazing part about Trendy's signature is not the way it looks. Trendy's flash signature is only 36 kb with all that random animations going on at once.

the animations for Trendy's signature is done using actionscript and duplicating movie clips which only takes up like 2-5 kbs.

edited: correction, i meant 36 kb for Trendy's signature. The Flash Signature was actually 26 kb before i added the Big Car driving in and out which added 10kb mostly due to the BIG imported picture kept at 60% quality.

anyway, long story short, the pictures increase the file size, not the animations.
