Default Photoshop Repaint Car Color Help? Why does it end up with water color.

So I followed the directions from this website http://www.photut.com/tutorial-repaint-your-car.html

but when I put it into color mode all the colors end up being very light almost like water color. how come everyone else can make Ferrari red, mine would end up looking really light. I can post some pics if more clarification on the problem I having is needed. when I switch to normal mode then all colors are the way I want, but then I lose the realisticness of the image.

Please help?

Thanks

well first the "color" blending mode does not always work best. sometimes its a mix of different blending modes or just changing hue/saturation.

but def put up something u got so we get a better idea.

ok here is just a quick random 1. The back door shows the color I want. But it also looks very unrealistic because it lacks the center molding thing and it lakes perspective. The front is with color looking realistic in color mode. But the color looks dull like a water color blue and lacks the blue from the back door which was what i was striving for. I have tried Ctrl Shift U to desaturate the front door in the image, it does not do much as you can probably see. And when I use the hue/sat in the menu the whole pic changes and it does not really appear the change the image in the way i want. I have Photo Shop 8.

Thanks Again

ps I was going to do my Lexus pic, but i couldn't find any side shots which are easier to do.

I tried painting a RX350 I found on ebay motors with CHP Colors of White and Black. I noticed overlay gets me somewhat accurate colors, but not really. The side came out fine, but then the hood came out Gold. What? Im in overlay mode.

This is in regular mode again good colors but lacks the realistic perpective. CHP cars are black and white.

I kinda suck at the color change thing but this is usually how I go about it;

1) I select the exterior parts that I want to color, (make duplicates of the layer just in case I mess up)
2) I mess around in 'channel mixer' to get the color I'm looking for.
3) If need be (and most of the times it's the case) I use 'hue & saturation' then adjust 'levels'

thanks. here's my very first repaint. I got a pic of a Is from ebay motors and used it to make a mock copy of a CHP police car. Does it look realistic? Honest thoughts?

Its the new Barricade from Transformers! The door edges dont look smooth, theres a few "bumps" along the front part of the door. But other than that it looks pretty cool. Nice paintjob

The method that siege outlined is the best method.
Channel mixer to start and then hue and saturation.
You then have to MAYBE play with the lighting. In this case I wanted the hood orange.

As you can see it does not destroy the image.
Have fun.

White and black are the two hardest to work with also, just an FYI.
