I learned this method the other day and though I would share this with you guys who might be interested in making some cool background imaging.The possibilities are really endless here and these can be useful for backgrounds for web design and wallpapers as well as for print ads etc.Here are a few examples first then I will tell you how make them.They are unbelievably simple to make.

this one turned out looking similar to some silk bed sheets so like I said the possibilities are endless

ok here is how to do it:
open a new document or make a new layer in an existing document
set you foreground color to black and background color to white
select the gradient tool(key command=G)
in the top tool bar set the gradient mode to "difference"
make sure for now you are using the linear gradient
now just start making gradients all across your layer, randomly jut drag the line up, down, across, do some small short lines and some longer ones.Basically just about as random as you can and you will def. see it start to develop.If you do one that looks bad just undo it and keep going till you are satisified.
now it is pretty much done.On the above examples I went and colorized them and also applied the unsharp mask filter under filter>sharpen, just to give it some crispness.

try using the different gradient tools it makes some cool effects, i dont have any of them on this comp ill upload some later
