The weight of the M4 has been debated to death on Bimmer Forums - general consensus is it will be slightly lighter than E92 M3, so about 3,500-3,600lbs.

Lets not go crazy and disparage the RC-F without official Specs and Tests of the 2 cars.
Either way these are not lightweights by any means.

It is quite amusing...if you google "BMW M4" the top three links are about the RC F.

We already know BMW is an emperor when it comes to "telling" its drivers they are driving a sports car when indeed they are driving a GT car.
yes, but the question is how do you make 2 tons of weight feel great? i cant help but feel pessimistic about the weight...

While we are on the subject of weight, and although the M4 will surely be considered the RC F's nemesis, the RS5 is really a more direct competitor:

Audi RS5
4,039 lbs
4.2L V8
450 hp
317 kb-ft of torque
8250 rpm redline
Quattro AWD

Exactly. So why assume it's going to be an issue at this point?

Because RC-F is heavy, that doesn't mean it will not drive great. Good suspension set up and low CoG will make a heavy car drive great. Why don't we just wait until someone pit RC-F against M4?

I personally didn't really care what power output they release it with, it'll be similar to an ISF with boltons. I was really looking forward to it being lighter than the ISF. Especially since they have that fancy LFA CF loom hanging around. Maybe even a CF steering wheel.....OK that's really dreaming lol

This kinda makes the weight of the RC F more of a let down, I'm sure quattro adds more than 50 lbs. The GS was in the right direction being the lightest in it's class.

Really? That makes it less of a let down. I had no idea the RS5 was such a pig.

There's only so much weight you can shave off until you start compromising on safely, technology, and comfort; all of which are equally important as acceleration and handling to Lexus and consumers alike.

Quattro is at least 150 lbs, so it would be lighter than the RC F in theory if it was RWD. the A4 is actually lighter than the A5. So the RS5 is already porky, but still better than the RC F. I think most of the complaining are from ISF owners who are on the fence and want a more compelling case to upgrade. I would be all over the RC F if I was a new owner.

All this hand-wringing over weight is exactly what happened over at Corvette Forum when the curb weight of the C7 was announced and everyone lost their minds that it didn't come in at 3000 lbs(which was an unrealistic expectation anyway). Then people actually got to drive it and the subject of weight was never brought up again because of how great it performed. I have a feeling the same thing will happen with the RC-F.

because no matter how you spin it, 4000 lbs isnt good for a sports car.
