The newer 'vette, the C7, is getting low 20's combined mpg. Haven't done that much highway driving, but 31 mpg is pretty good. Still surprised by the RC's mpg cause it is not a rocket by any means.
Yep the car needs to be put on a diet, maybe more extruded Aluminum like the new Camaro got. When you have the 8 speed auto the vehicle will shift gears up quicker to achieve the best MPG, but that doesn't really work when driving in the city as the car is bogging down as it in 8th gear going 40.
That is why when I drive from my house to the freeway I use the paddle shifters in manual mode so that I can control when the car shifts. I would get much better mpg if I wasn't having so much fun using the paddle shifters. Kind of a catch 22 situation, but I'll live with losing some MPG for some SPM (Smiles Per Mile) any day.
Once on the freeway I'll either use Normal mode which drops the RPM to about 1900 at 70 MPH or be in Manual mode in 8th gear. If I use Full Auto and Sport+ the RPM at 70 MPH is about 2500 RPM, and the mileage goes way down.
