Honestly I wouldn't know if putting any matte material on the steering column would help. I just tried putting like a towel on the steering column and it still gets reflected on the lens. So basically you would have to put some anti glare film on the gauge glass / plastic. Not sure if they make like an anti glare film. I would have to ask my tint / wrap shop.

what color was the towel you tried? Try it with a dark color based material.

I was thinking black hockey tape. Black should absorb most of the light.
