Red face New user introduction and question.

Hi Folks,

New user from Madrid-Spain. I'm taking delivery in the next two weeks of a RC300h in Titanium finish, with sun roof, Navibox and some other minor extras.

I have a question I'd appreciate someone coud answer. I find the speed limit (190km/h) ludicrous...for a 220HP car, and I wonder if there's already any "remedy" in the form of an ECU re-programming?. I do not intend to go at neck-break speeds with this car, I bought it for the finesse and efficiency, but i don't like my cars capped.

Thanks for any information you may provide and I hope to spend some time in the forums.

Regards.

Albert.

For the math-challenged, (do the public schools still teach math?) our new friend Albert complains that his car will not go faster than about 120 mph. Generally speaking, that's a speed I never have exceeded in my last two Lexus coupes (SC400 and SC430) that had V-8 engines and reported top speeds in the 150 mph (240 km/h) range. The advantage of having the power of a big engine and a high top speed, I always thought, was that the car had the ability to accelerate quickly when already moving smartly along the highway. For example, when cruising at 60 mph, try passing a truck in an SC400/430, and then in a RAV4 or a 4 cylinder Camry and see how long it takes.
The thought of moving along at 130 mph never occurred to me.
My swell new RC (6 cyl) has more HP and more torque than my previous SC430 (8 cyl), and I find it quite adequate for all my driving needs.
That having been said, I have no answer to Albert's question of whether an ECU fix exists, but thanks for listening. I feel better now.

I believe the RC350 sold in Australia is speed limited to 230 km/h, which is certainly fast enough for anyone. They don't sell the 300h here. I'm wondering if the hybrid model is set lower for a technical reason (it has a CVT versus the 8-speed in the 350).

I'm not sure what these "limiters" are for. I recall reading a while ago that my SC430 had a limiter set to about 140 or 150 mph, while the European version had no limiter (but who knew). I don't know how fast it would go, but at 120 it was pretty smooth and easy to control.
