Blacked out chrome on front grille [Obsidian]

I've decided to go with a blacked out look and I'm also going to see about getting the grille blacked out. I'm going to look into a more permanent solution though.
My concern with using vinyl on the front end is; how often is the vinyl going to need to be replaced due to rocks? I put like 3k miles on my car per month. I don't want to have to get it redone every 2-3 months. With the cost at that rate, within a year I could have just bought a carbon fiber trim piece and been done with it.
