Hey guys,
So i had my 25k service completed just recently and the service adviser urgently suggested that i need to replace the rotors and pads on all 4 corners asap. Mind you i drive 70% highway and the rest city. do you guys think this is a correct assumptions or are they trying to sell me on something i don't need at the moment.
thanks for the help.

Historically, I got over 100K on the brakes on my last 3 vehicles. I drive round trip 100 miles a day to and from work....90% highway. I would question their statement. Jack up your car and take a wheel off and take a look at your pads. The best way to know for sure....

Thanks for the info, i am going to reach out to the dealer that completed the service and see if they still have the measurement of the pads and rotors. thanks again.

I agree with the above statement to review the service documents which are handed over to you. Still, I highly doubt you will need new rotors (which they will tell you are necessary) and also super expensive. They are def not needed for your first pad change...maybe not your second or third if you replace your pads in a timely fashion. I also advise you use an aftermarket pad because the stock pads shed so much dust. I'm at 20k miles now and still have a lot of pad left but when I do need to change them, I will be trying something new. Still need to search the forums for a good alternatives with a proof of concept defined already. Reviews and threads seems to be scarce tho currently...

I am a fan of Hawk Street pads. I had them on my 4runner and my Infiniti G37. They cost more (about $ 80 for the front) but also last longer. Tirerack does not offer them, which is were I have previously purchased from. The least amount of time I spend wrenchin the more time I have to drink good beer:-)

Finally got around to check my pad and rotors this weekend. Just hit 30K miles this morning. I was happy to see that the brake pads were ~50% worn and the rotors were all in great shape. I guess all highway driving for the last 17K miles really doesn't wear the pads much...

I'm at 33k on my 2015 and i was advised to change out the rotors and brake pads for $849.32 (oem parts & labor)! This was through a brake shop. Got oem parts quote from someone i know at Toyota and he quoted $650 for rotors and pads. Do either of these prices sound reasonable? I've tried research on all accessible forums for pricing with no results.

You can check LexusPartsNow - not sure what model your car is but for a 2015 IS 350 the parts are listed as follows: pad kits for the front range from $47 to $55 - and the front rotors range from $68 to $72 ea. So if replacing all four pads and rotors and using the higher of the prices on LPN you're looking at around $500 in parts. Check around as there may be cheaper parts out there - but $650 isn't outlandish, high, but not highway robbery for the parts IMO.

Given it was for a different vehicle (my GX460) recently I also hit 25k miles, and service attendant strongly recommended I change all 4 pads. Note, the truck weighs more and I do drive it very hard, sometimes in the city as well, so I knew it might have actually been true. Anyhow he quoted me $499 for front including labor and $499 for rear including labor, insisted I leave the car with them. I told him thank you for the information but I will do it on my own. The stealership loves to hint that warrantied lease vehicles can ONLY be serviced at the dealership, this is incorrect! I purchased 4 OEM pads for $90 shipped on ebay from an out of state Lexus Dealership, certified authentic parts. I had my local mechanic swap them out for $120. You can do the math and calculate the savings. Moral of the story is get a second opinion and get the work done elsewhere, that is of course reputable and trusted!
