2018 Infotainment Question
Hey everyone,
picking up a 2018 RC350 F-Sport with the newer widescreen nav on Friday.
I was reading about the system and read that you can’t enter navigation entries while moving (understandable) but that you also can’t browse your music either??? Is this accurate? For example, while I’m driving with my iPhone connected via USB, I can’t select another Artist/Album or playlist?

Your best option imo is find a unit to add CarPlay/Android Auto. I know there’s more than one solution for that out there. Grom makes a unit that plugs into the aux port of the head unit called VLine and there’s other ways like replacing the screen. I think the VLine costs between $600-$700 bucks and all off the steering wheel controls and track pad function with it.

Unfortunately I don’t know if the previous owner has CarPlay installed but I have the USB and instructions ready to go for the update.

Well I would absolutely go with the Lexus update first since that’s possible for your car. Have you never had CarPlay before? All of your original questions can be addressed using your phone hooked up in CarPlay right?

I was talking to beat-sonic and they said their video in motion module does not stop GPS from working while in motion on the RC (like some other Lexus models), so that would be an option too.

I have had CarPlay (being able to get it was a big reason I chose the 2018+), but it’s my understanding that Lexus locks it down more while driving. I can have album art at least (to my understanding) but is it true I won’t be able to see the lists of playlists while driving?

got the car yesterday, already has the CarPlay update installed and everything works great. Now I just have to get used to the trackpad lol

I really don’t use the trackpad all that much. Most of the stuff can be done with the steering wheel controls once I’m in Pandora and I’d guess most apps work similarly. When I start going into other stuff in the main menus is when it gets tricky. I might look for a sensitivity setting to reduce how quickly the cursor moves around but it seems like the on screen menu options are ‘sticky’ like it jumps to the nearest choice to where your finger goes. It’s not the best setup I’ve seen.
