Who takes their car to the track?
#46
I personally would have gotten Torsen, had I done the research beforehand instead of falling in love at first sight. It’s strictly to reduce any potential repair/replacement costs down the line. $20k for a replacement TVD stresses me the F out.
Maintenance and consumable costs need to be accounted for if you plan on tracking, unless your a crypto billionaire then you might as well buy a team and a Ferrari haha. I also don’t see the RC F being a highly competitive contender without serious rework and weight reduction and it’s more of a do everything kind of car.
I won’t speak about F diff vs M diff, since I’m not an expert by any means, but here’s a
. (Monkey brain always takes over on track and always forgets to make quality videos. Haha)
Unfortunately, it’s an instructor led convoy, so did not get to push the limits. I haven’t taken the F on a proper track yet, but hopefully will have something for you Q1 2024.

Sick video man!!! It's def a pay-to-play in terms of pocket shock vs the sport. At the end of the day to your point there is a reason a MX-5 is cost wise probably the most tracked car in HPDE lol. But hey whats the fun in that ya know. We live to experience what we can manage and dream of in the end right.
But I agree I suffer from Monkey brain also hahaha. I think im on 4 videos on Youtube and just havent had to time with all thats going on to do more. Look forward to your new videos will sub also!
What track is that? I did mine completely at Spartanburg, South Carolina, Love their drivers we actually became friends thats how cool and close they get man. I plan on doing the GT4 experience Q1 next year depending certain projects. That track looks fun man! Have you done Lexus PDS? I was sadly rained out on my PDS with Lexus and couldnt get a reschedule in 2023 but im hoping 2024 yields better options on the east coast. ( Trying to get them to come to Sebring or Daytona )

@rblover69 Appreciate man! Unfortunately, I am late to the F game, so I got a lot to catch up on. Always been with Lexus though (1IS, 3IS), although this is the first that I found some pride and joy in. “Drifting” it at AVS definitely elevated my sense of ownership and now just chasing that high within my means.
There’s some hope that this will be a “future classic”, but the car is still too expensive to be considered for a full project build. Compared to a Z, 86s, or MX-5. Probably shouldn’t put it in the same bracket, but it’s very clear that Toyota/Lexus is capturing the enthusiast buyer segment with the GR line (GR86, Supra GR, GR Corolla <3). We’ll have to see what the future of F holds. Hopefully, they do more promos with the two Red Bull RC driFts(except the 2JZ swapped one )
Event was at Sonoma Raceway in NorCal. I plan on doing some instructor led HPDE courses next year on the West Coast and hopefully some community based track days for test and tune. I don’t have any intentions on “going pro”, just enjoy the freedom of driving like a maniac haha.
My LDS actually told me they’re not doing LPDS anymore, but maybe that’s just on the WC. Also, was lurking in the LC threads and some were saying they only got to track the LC, whereas the RC F and GS F was skidpad only. Which is odd, seeing how many LC owners are facing transmission cooling issues when tracking it…

Insane man I think it comes down just budget vs what you're trying to get out of the car indeed. I'm glad you are aware of your goals and space and are having a blast with that in mind. I love HPDE simply as a sport and from the technicality of how you can really understand your chassis vs your driving skill. I agree with the future course of the F brand being hard to vision now in terms of info. I think F will continue on they have a GT3 car thats rumored to be the new RCF platform. There is also a rumor they will can the LC name also and have one Halo LFR car and a one RC sports like coupe designation as they are going to continue racing in IMSA ( homologation rules etc ) after a legendary run with the RCF GT3. Lexus has stated that the RCF was a GT car made to be duel purpose but not from scratch designed for racing and they had to work and rethink very hard to get the racing product to the amazing place it is now. The consumer product similar with the Track/Fujis being the translated DNA from the GT3 car in the best form of what the RCF can be but it was a slow process ( many wanted more power like the GT3 2UR ). However, I do think Lexus will do as rumored have two coupes as the LCs dont sell well and the RCFs are kinda in my view being held in place due to its racing program. I was never a LC fan love the shape and interior but its just too darn heavy and it always gave me SC vibes when driving it but to your point very odd they only let you drive the LCs as indeed lack of transmission cooling and sheer weight is a massive thing in those cars when hitting a track. We had a LC driver not even able to select Sports + due to overheating at Sebring racing it he had to use lower programs for the trans to not throw a code. Added reason why the 10 SPD made no sense in the RCF in its current iteration despite many liking the character....the Aisin in my view despite age was a better choice out of those two until they get a ZF or a DCT optioned.
The GR folks as you stated great stuff out and the F branding aspect are all in-house same roof big picture just different chief engineers and manufacturing processes but all have access to an insane amount Toyota engineers etc so im very excited what the future brings for F also. As for LPDS I was told 2024 schedule is being created but one thing we are unsure of we dont know if the RCF GT3 will run in 2024. We are unsure if the LC/RC has a future and we are certain we are seeing the twilight of the RCF GT3 as they're poised to end Petit with a rather insane resume truly awe-inspiring run of the car. The new car isnt due out to 2025 so they have a couple of options.....
Skin the car to the new RCF refresh look and run it again to continue relating lower volume RCF production. With more special editions TE/Fujis giving ode to the racing teams prowess.
Change GT3 car to an LC run it until the new platform launches
Can the RC be completly with the end of the RCF GT3 program.
Many things can happen but who knows whats the course....all I know is I love driving the RCF and on track it's truly been a great shocking revelation of understanding what they meant engineering-wise with the RCF platform.
I sure hope your LDS instructor was just talking your local track I hope im overdue for meeting Scott again!

I may have over spoke on some other posts about “the F fading away and GR taking over”.
It makes total sense that Lexus would keep F, since the contenders on the GT3 level are luxury brands, Audi, BMW, MB, etc. Although the LFR is the LFA successor, it makes sense that the RC and LC will be discontinued. LFR will go into production to fulfill GT Racing purposes and the RC and LC is easily replaced by GR for “enthusiast” consumer. This is all speculation from an ape like myself.
On the consumer level, the near future of Lexus is electrification. Although one last huzzah for an LCF with tt-V8 will win the hearts and minds of all drivers. Even more controversial is if they follow the C8 Corvette and put the engine behind the driver. Mmmm. Most likely not though.
The future of the RC line… idk, but I do know we get compared to as “fancy + expensive” 86/FRS/BRZ lol. Final edition RC F might as well come with a RRR supercharger and call it a day.
Hopefully, they discontinue it, so all of us is sitting on a piece of Lexus Racing history… that no one will appreciate haha. Toyota Gazoo Racing is where it’s at for race spec Lexus cars anyways. It just that GT3 and IMSA is a bigger stage.

Honestly I hope they just dont do Gazoo and GR because with just Toyota because I would exit the brand completely if they was the case I enjoy the F brands story and target. Had it not been for F I would've stayed M but it looks like they have two cars that will fill in the gap. Note on the GT3 car they since removed the Toyota and GR badge and just have it has Lexus so...its def a Lexus branded product as the RC was touched and blessed by Gazoo also in terms of racing program etc.
Many consider this the new RC GT3 although again they may kill off LC and RC and make it something new we dont really know but these are two different cars that we are seeing. This below looks like a true RCF replacement as it sounds like either a TT V8 or if you hear those downshifts a hybrid-assisted V8 of sorts. That engine is certainly a V8 at its core below again pure conjecture. But this looks like the car in the video doing rounds.
And many consider this the new LFR aka LFA replacement which will be a total electric platform pushing a rumored 800-1000hp this will be the new flagship car rumored and not the GT3 car. Many people confuse them as the same car but they're not the same and I think you're looking at the new RCF and new LFA at an early stage. I remember watching Super girl blonde live during her debute and they kept on hinting this model is pure electric. So it cant be the same car. the LFR also is far upmarket price wise and the RCF 70-100k so at this juncture very hard to kinda understand price points.
Hard to really understand the direction but thats where im at. lol

So anyway, here's my current best laps at Summit Point and at Virginia International Raceway earlier this year. Will be at Watkins Glen in a few weeks.
Out of all the noise in the last handful of posts, the item I'd agree with is this is an expensive hobby. The downside of this being a heavy car is that I currently eat brake pads and only get a handful of events out of them. Tires only last a little bit longer.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Those are some nice runs.
I know C&D does runs on VIR as well. Did you ever run the same configuration as they did and what was your time?

I am guessing the tires, rotors, and pads. Are you looking to going coilover set up and if so which were you looking into? I know RR offers different versions.
