Default K and N drop-in air filter

I see that K and N are now offering a drop in air filter for our cars. Have any of you installed this? I installed one few years ago into a 4 cyl Accord coupe and loved it. I got a nice throaty intake growl under hard acceleration from it. I also put one in my 6 cyl Accord cp that I had before buying the RCF. The filter didn't give me much growl with that car. I'm hoping to hear from someone who has installed it and who can confirm any sonic improvement. I realize up gains are insignificant with this, but if I can get that growl, I'll spring for it

ANY IS F aftermarket drop in filter will fit the RC F...

The OEM part numbers for the engine filter are Identical..

What is the Main Difference from an Aftermarket Filter compared to the OEM one (i don't guess i've ever heard of one giving a car a different sound than the oem though).

Only thing different with the K&N is better flow rate, which might make some small difference. I put a K&N in my step-daughter's 2004 Accord V-6 and I didn't notice any engine sound difference. I put it in for the obvious purpose of being able to clean and re-use it.

K&N also makes CAIs, but not for RC-F. As you may very well know, that definitely will give you some engine growl because of the open design and very high flow rate, compared to OEM. This is similar to what we did back in the day with the old round air filters on the top of your four-barrel: turn the cover upside down to expose the air filter element and you would get a similar engine growl. Old school

I got the K&N filter installed in my RCF, because ASC kicks in, it unfortunately covers up the little bit of engine growl that you gain from using the filter. On my old ride 2IS350 without ASC, you can notice a little bit more of the engine growl.

I got the filter just for a bit better MPG. I think its worth it.

Thanks for your replies. I'll probably go for it...growl or no growl...it'll pay for itself in due time

I think that for the average consumer under average driving conditions, the "oiled" K&N air filter is a gimmick. Yes, after you've had it for XX,000 miles, it may have paid for itself. Not counting the time and effort you spend. Also, I think it's possible to over oil it and get a coating on your MAF sensor and throttle body. I could be wrong, just how I feel after having had one years ago.

Possibly less effective filtration.

I personally have the Tom's Drop in Filter and I love it! (on my ISF)

It's not listed on the thread because there was no ETA on Tom's products but they are now shipping products from Japan.

I heard that the with TOM's one, you have to check on it every few thousand miles because of sealing issues and dirt would get in on the ISF, so I went with the AFE Pro Dry S filter.

Hmm, I never had an issue with mine, knock on wood!

AFE's filters are great too, I just prefer not to go with any oiled filters!
