2015 C&D Lightning Lap Results, RC F 3:05.8

The RC F was probably driven in manual mode--a mistake--as the car is faster in sport+ and TVD mode with AI and traction control disabled. In automatic, the car seems to have a completely different throttle response. It is almost as if it has a different tune.
Try taking a 0-60 with this set up. Immediately after you take off pull back on the left paddle to keep it in 1st gear, and then take it to near redline before shifting. It's a different beast that likes to eat tires.

On your second paragraph, stomping on the throttle in auto mode is different than in manual mode? That shouldn't be the case, but please clarify, as I'd certainly take your word for it. I was precisely going to ask what's the best non-abusive way to launch this car, and guess you just gave me the answer: sport+, TVD in' track', nannies disabled (pressing 'TC' button for 3 seconds), and auto mode... until you're launched, correct? Andno brake-torquing, correct? That's the abusive method, and I won't do that to my car. After launching, then switch to manual with the paddles while still in 1st... but do you shift until you hear the 'beep', or the car will shift by itself from 1st to 2nd, due to the lever not being in 'M' mode? Curious about that too. Please give us all details man . Still in break-in, so can't do that myself. Thanks.
That's the exact weight officially listed by Lexus. The perf package car (TVD included) weighs less than that. The 'base' car with TVD is probably that weight, which is the highest possible on this car. Lexus should have provided a top-spec car for ALL testing. That's exactly what everybody else does. Duh!

At $75,000, it most likely was not the TVD. I will verify it and get back. The number most likely was pulled from a spec sheet somewhere.

Near the end of this issue they do a special article on torque vectoring diffs, and actually do a comparison of the TVD and Torsen RC Fs. In this comparison the TVD RC F has the carbon package and weighs in at 4057 lb, the Torsen with sunroof comes in at 4016 lbs. The car in the LL test came in at 4069lbs, with the added weight being the lack of the carbon roof and spoiler.
In their comparison of the two RC Fs, the TVD achieved a higher lateral g on their skidpad, (0.94 vs 0.91), averaged a slightly higher slalom speed, (42.7mph vs 42.2mph) and a faster lap time on their 1.7 mile test track, (1:18.7 vs 1:19.1).
We could come up with conspiracy theories all day long here, and at the end of the day it is one data point. Motor Trend's comparison was much closer, but on a shorter track and one that I feel favored more softly sprung cars. But I have faith in how C&D runs this, and in a long course like VIR, with lots of tight radius turns and blistering long straights, 3:05.8 is probably in the realm of where the RC F currently sits. Yes maybe there is a second or two on the table, but if you start thinking that way, who's to say that the M4, or the ATS V didn't leave something on the table as well.
It's a good starting point, and much better than the 3:14 the 08 ISF clocked. This run doesn't change my opinion of the car, and the consistent lap times they got mean I can take it out to the track and run lap after lap and not worry about too much performance fade. Just my $0.02.

^^^I agree with your comments.
I do have a note into the C&D editor to determine if this indeed was the TVD. I have seen lots of $75,000 RC Fs in the showrooms, and not one was equipped with the TVD.
We'll see!
BTW: This is the $75,000 package:
Infared 2015 Lexus RC F two-door coupe ($62,400) comes standard with the V8 and 8-speed Sport Direct-Shift gearbox with paddle shifters and the Brembo high-performance ventilated disc brakes on all four corners, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, high-performance summer tires, and a speed activated rear spoiler.
Options include 19-inch, hand polished 20-spoke wheels ($1,500), special leather seats ($800), Navigation/Marl Levinson premium sound ($2,840), Premium Package ($4,400) that includes heated/cooled front seats, carbon fiber interior trim, a host of high-tech safety features, and a Moonroof to top it all off ($1,100).
No TVD...
Total MSRP including destination: $74,560.
