Shock damping, but compression damping is the worst offender. Next, rebound damping (great shocks have high and low speed on each, FYI). Springs by themselves wouldn't be harsh. At least not the ones in street cars. Hope this helps.

I have no idea for this car, but many owners have already installed coil-overs (springs and shocks in one unit), which I'm sure have the option of adjustable shocks (or at least different ones). By the way, if they're adjustable, they're probably going to have adjustment for both compression and rebound. Plus they're ride height adjustable, which is a great feature, especially on this car, which comes with a big gap at the front. Do a search, or hit the vendors here.
