My dealer told me to come at 5 and 10K, that the oil would be changed at the 10K, and that those first two services would be free of charge.

I was getting ready to trade my GS350 F-Sport for an RC-F until I read this thread. I had several reservations about the RC-F, but 10 qts of oil every 5000 miles was the final blow.

Ya I ALWAYS base what car I buy on how much oil it takes. I don't think I have read anything less intelligent in weeks.

Like some of the guys mentioned, regular oil vs Synthetic. It's your money and if you want to pay more or less, it's your right. I also only use Premium 93 octane gas with Shell. Only. Some people prefer 76, Texaco, Mobil, Costco, or your cheap Arco or non named off brands. It's my Baby, and do whatever pleases me and if you use this or that product in and on your RCF, it's your car, right? Please have a great weekend guys and gals.

Where can I get 93 Shell here in SoCal...??

Agreed especially since you can buy a 5 year maintanence contract for $1300 that more than pays for the cost of the oil.

Try reading before you shoot off your mouth. I said that it was one of many issues.

Really? It's 4 qts more than your car, if at all. Or about $5. Seems more like an affordability issue to me. It's not good to over-stretch yourself, but don't fool yourself that it was the 'final blow'.

You need to read into why the RCF requires 10qts of oil... The high volume system ensures the engine is never starved for oil, and also aids in the cooling of the oil.

The ISF shares a 10qt system as well. It works.

Sounds like you needed an excuse not to pull the trigger.

$50 for 10qt of synthetic oil every 10k miles is a final blow? Were you planning to put regular gas in this car too?

I am sure he could just run 87 to cover the cost of the oil

I find it funny when people troll about why the car is not good, 1st it was the trans now it takes too much oil. If this is the only "issues" people are having It seems the RFC is a good car.

Does anyone know if lexus even carries a 5w30 synthetic? I'm under the impression all 5W30 is Dino that the dealer carries?

The 2UR-GSE motor was designed to use 5w30 conventional oil by the engineers who built it...

I'm not going to debate Synthetic vs Conventional oils or penny pinching in this thread.

Some food for thought..

My 2008 IS F gets an oil change very 5k miles with regular conventional Mobil 5w30 jugs from Walmart.
9.8 quarts (never put all 10) - Now reaching 115k miles and all is doing perfectly fine.

My 2014 Odyssey gets an oil change every 7.5k miles (or when ever the maintenance minder goes off) with Synthetic Mobil 1 0w20 (only available in synthetic) also jug from Walmart.

Per jug.. The oil for the Honda costs more..

In both our cars, I use what they tell me to on the oil cap / service manual

It's a per dealership discretion on what they sell to their customers..

Most will only pump what the engines call for.

Some who up sell Syntethic, will carry and stock those oils too.

Other dealerships may even allow customer provided Synthetic oil for their service intervals.
