new sound - not fuel pump sound
Anybody have a fan like sound apparently coming from the gas tank, but different than what everybody is saying is the fuel pump- its not a whirring sound under the drivers seat and not while the engine is running. I have heard this a couple of times after the engine has been off a few hours of sitting in my garage, and then after a few minutes it goes away. The last time, I opened the fuel filler cap and the fan sound stopped immediately.
Anybody know what this is?

Part of the emissions system; the EVAP, to be precise (venting gas tank to the charcoal canister). But now that you mentioned it, it takes awfully too long on my car sometimes. Timed it at 17 minutes and counting once. That's probably what flattened my battery completely once. Had the tank almost empty; maybe that had something to do with it. Shoudln't happen regardless, but maybe that was a contributor. And I rarely leave it that empty, so shouldn't be an issue again. Normal time is up to 5 minutes. Last time I heard it, it took about that, so hoping it was one more electronic gremlin.
