It still comes down to a rich mixture exploding gasses in your exhaust pipe, rich tune, fine on a race car or if you like that for the street, when you hear a pos do it you cringe.

Its a ricer mod. As others have stated, its just a rich tune (see stock) w/prob no cats (to get a better effect of the POP). There's a lot of rednecks w/mustanks and slomaros 'round my parts that do it. It just tells me they like washing down their cylinder walls with the extra fuel which promotes premature ring wear and gas contamination of the oil.

anyone have a preowned loud in good condition borla exhaust for RC300 F sport????
I got my borla exhaust system installed and it sounds evil. Incredible exhaust. Only driven it a few times so far, but I got one loud intense backfire/pop while decelerating and also had another decently loud one today.
With my last car, I knew exactly when it would crackle, accelerate past 4k, let it decel in same gear, around 3500-3000 you get magical crackle. Any idea when this happens with the RCF engine? Haven't figured it out yet!
To add, I believe when it happened I was at very low RPM, sub 2K which seems strange to me.

I love backfires but am starting to get annoyed by all these garbage crackle and pop tunes. If I hear it, I’m going to look, and I have a lot of disappointing looks lately. Stop what I’m doing for a f*cing Kia Sorento?! Cmon man, stop wasting my time.

There is a BMW 2-series in my neighborhood and he has some weird tune/exhaust setup that cracks, bangs, makes popcorn popping noises, deep/bassy gargles on throttle lift-off. He constantly keeps lifting off the throttle while driving by to make that stupid thing do the bass-y gargling cr*p. He probably thinks his car sounds amazing, but it sounds like absolute cr*p.

I used to like it, then after everyone started doing it, I completely lost interest in it. Now I really don't like it at all. It's annoying AF when you hear it and the person is on/off/on/off of the throttle and all you here is the pops/crackles and bangs... Every once in a while is fine but the way people drive when they have it is just extremely annoying to me. Exotic cars cool. On a bmw 2 series and everything else naaaaa....

It’s one thing when it fits the character of the car and happens in a way that sounds natural (tuned or otherwise); completely another when it’s done via a tune in the most basic and repeatable way possible.
Major pet peeve over here, right up there with the raspy, whistling, black cloud shrouded diesel trucks.
I mean, just look at all that wasted fuel that could have been power!

Hey, I just spent some time with the RC F Fuji Speedway Edition and, although this is now a very old thread and morphed into a debate about the value of crackles n' pops, here are my two cents on the RC F...
Unlike the LC 500, which a) has the 10-speed transmission and b) is tuned to rev-match in almost every mode, the RC F really only liked to rev-match in Sport S+ and Full Manual mode. And it's in these settings where it would crackle and pop the most (but not as consistently or organically as the LC). It would also do it a little randomly. I suspect that, in addition to engine and trans tuning, the main reason for this is the titanium exhaust. Lexus appears to have aimed for clean rather than growling. And as many other have said, an aftermarket exhaust seems to help (without any need for a specific tune).
