Default Carbon fibre - long term maintenance and concerns

I was reading a thread about the RC-F Carbon and concerns about longevity of the carbon hood and roof.

Here's the thread.

A number of questions arise from this thread -

1. Will the carbon bits last the time of the car. What happens if they don't?
2. Should some kind of protection be applied to the carbon fibre?
3. What happens if you get a stone chip on the hood?

Love to hear your thoughts!

From what I gather. There's a clear coat over it. Should treat like any painted surface. If you have hood I would get a clear bra film like xpel which would protect against rock chips. Then you don't have to worry about future replacement

The carbon fiber is exactly the same that was used on the LFA so it will have the same longevity as the carbon tub and body panels of the LFA will. I guess, keep it in a garage to avoid hail damage. Also, wash and wax it fairly often. I might end up getting the 3M tape on the carbon fiber roof as well later this year. Hopefully there should be no issues.

I know it's heresy, but if you paint it with a solid color, you'll protect it from UV which is what eventually kills the adhesives in composites. Aircraft are the most weight sensitive devices you can imagine, and if CF would weather the elements with exposed weave and only a clearcoat, aircraft would look like the ultimate CF orgy. They don't because the paint's pigments protect the weave and its adhesives from UV damage.

Having an extra layer of clear coat painted over it would certainly prolong the lifespan. Another option is CeramicPro, which is what I'll be doing when I get mine!

My car is never garaged so I went with Ceramic Pro coating right away. Can't say that it was going to wear out before I got rid of the car but with the coating I'm not so worried about it.

one reason i steered away from the carbon roof was potential hail damage. its common around where i live and it comes out of no where.
