Default Water temp gauge rising quickly

At about 12,000 miles, I noticed a whirring sound, I’m thinking it’s a fan kicking on but at the same time noticed that water temp gauge shoots to about halfway within about 4 min of easy driving. The water temp gauge has always risen about the same rate as oil and just slightly lower than the oil temp gauge.
Not experiencing any overheating that I can tell and I’ve tried to drive a little harder and also let the car sit and the temp will not go past the halfway mark.

Dealer said this seems normal but it’s definately different than it has been in the past year and a few months.

anyone have any similar experience or any change in how gauges read from what has been normal?

thanks !!!

anyone else experience this.

This probably depends on your location/weather .But I live in southern California and my water temp usually gets up to half before the oil temp gets to a quarter .The other question would be the oil weight you got. Maybe they filled you with 0-20. Vs the rec ?5-30 . Would explain the oil heating up faster assuming your oil level is consistent.

Good point and I hadn’t mentioned in my first post but this all started on about Monday, when we went into a cold spell so Low’s of low 30s and highs of mid 50s (Northern California). No fluid changes recently that would all of a sudden effect it differently but great to know about how your fluids register on the gauges, thank you!!

This is how it goes for me. Water temperature reaches mid-point much quicker than oil temperature, which in turn takes a long time to get to proper operational temperature (and the redline to rise from 5500 rpm to 7300 rpm).

I believe the cooling fans turn on when the air conditioning system is on. Is this whirring sound you hear the same sound you will notice if you turn on the air conditioning system?

On a similar path... Does anyone know what the actual water temperature is when the water temp indicator is at mid-point?

Don't forget you have 10 litres of oil that takes a lot longer than the coolant to heat up cheers.
