I believe that is a low pressure fuel pump. There are an additional two high pressure fuel pumps on top of the engine, these two are the pumps that are subject to the recall.

Yea, they should be the two in the front. My service rep only mentioned the one in the back just to give me an idea on where all the fuel pumps were. He then said that the 2 pumps on top of the engine were the ones being recalled.

I've never been asked to disconnect my dash cam, but I have had the techs do it themselves, right before they took the car out for a joyride, they didn't know I had a data logger installed and attached to the ODB port and I got blasted with text messages that the car was exceeding the valet allowed speed (45mph) and g-force ratings. logging showed that they hit 85 in a 35 zone and based on the g-force recordings I suspect they were either doing donuts or they drifted a corner.

I brought it up to the SM and GM and they told me they would take the word of their tech over my data, and they backed his decision to disconnect my camera for "privacy" concerns.

I talked to a lawyer, but it wasn't worth the money or effort, but I did contact the dealership owner and when I got no response I blasted them on social media and I contacted the local paper about it, The tech, GM and SM were no longer employed there 2 weeks later and I got a letter of apology from the owner. Guess he didn't like the bad publicity.

and like stated above, I always leave a note taped to the mirror NO WASH and DO NOT ADJUST TIRE PRESSURE. I also make sure both statement are on the WO before I sign it.

I had a dent on my IS-F in the same place...a PDR guy will make it look like it was never there...no worries.

It just served them right.

They should not have done that.

OK, your story has mine beat by a mile. That's just awful.

The thing that is annoying me is the way they returned the car to me by driving it to the opposite side of the service area and backing it in while I was standing there waiting for it. In hindsight, I think they made a conscious effort to minimize the chance that I would see it before I left, and therefore they'd be off the hook.

The dent is located in the exact place they would need to be to access the high-pressure fuel pump.

What a bunch of crooks.

Sometimes the "lower food chain" people doing all kinds of crazy things at the dealership and the "higher food chain" people not aware any if these activities or they just don't want to acknowledge it.

I don't doubt that, having worked at dealerships I've become accustomed to walking the car before leaving, even during an after hours pickup.

The Lexus dealer I use now (not the one mentioned above) has an iPad and some app that they use to video and still shot the car during drop off, they record all dents, scratches, etc. and have you approve what they find, and then they do the same when they release the car back to you at pickup and verify that the findings match, while I haven't had an issue: I did witness someone who did, they noticed a scratch during pickup that wasn't noted and the dealer immediately took responsibility and told them it would be handled. I didn't stick around to find out the results but I did mention to my SA that I was impressed at that level of service, he told me that even if the damage was there beforehand if it wasn't noted on the drop off the dealer would repair it no questions asked they valued their customer relationship more then the expense of a minor scratch repair.

some people/companies have no integrity, it seems like such a minor thing to expect honesty in people, but sadly most people are neither honest or have integrity, and the majority of people I interact at my job have no sense of personal responsibility, they are always pointing the finger and deflecting to someone else.

WOW, that's like all the Horror stories you always hear about from the dealerships. I just took mine in this last weekend for the fuel pump recall & luckily I didn't have any issues.

Drove home and then took the car out for the evening. Now in the setting sun (less than 2 hours later) as I got out of the car, I noticed an obvious dent in the top of my fender. It's pretty obvious to me that the tech damaged the car while replacing the high-pressure fuel pump. Either his elbow with his weight on it, or he dropped something on the fender (a fuel pump, most likely!). I immediately took pics and called ly service guy - but no response all weekend. So, I showed up Monday AM. On the way back to the dealer an errant rock broke my windshield. Aargh.

The service advisor knows I am OCD about my car. They also washed the car after they finished the pump replacement (not at my request, as I don't like anyone touching the car but me). But with that, there is simply no way that they could not have noticed the dent. Two other things were weird when I picked up the car - instead of pulling the car into the service area like they would normally do, they took it around the front and backed it in. This made it so that when I took the car I approached it from the rear instead of the front as would be the norm. In addition, when I dropped it off they insisted I remove my dash cam from the windshield. This is my 3rd time at this dealership, and the first two times they made no mention of my dashcam. Though, the camera would not have been turned on since they disconnect the battery, and it would have seen nothing with the hood up anyway. Does anyone else think this sounds fishy? And do other Lexus dealers make a fuss over dash cams?

I can't help but think they were trying to conceal this - though they have offered to have their PDR guy "make it as good as new". I told them I would get an estimate from an outside PDR specialist and possibly a body shop as well. They don't seem to like that idea, but I'm not giving them a choice.

Damn, I would be pissed too. A good skilled PDR will get that looking like it never happend. I was in surprised when I had my car done before.

Haha... I have them write it in big letters "DO NOT WASH" on the work order. They use those nasty *** plastic brushes to wash the cars at the dealerships.

Being local (Lexus of Chandler is the second closest Lexus dealer to me) I appreciate you sharing your experience. Sorry about the car, as others have said, PDR should fix that and at least they offered to pay for it.

Good luck with getting it fixed!

UPDATE:
I let the dealership talk me in to having their PDR guys do the repair. The selling point was simply that if any further damage occurred while someone else tried to fix it, they would not be willing to pay. But if problems occurred with their PDR guy, they would stand behind it. So, I dropped it off yesterday AM for the repair and a windshield replacement - because a rock nailed me while on my way back to the dealer to let them see the dent... (Yeah, FML sometimes). Didn't hear anything back, so I called at 4:00 PM to see if it was ready for me to pick it up, and the service advisor told me that the windshield was done, but they were still working on the dent, and it would be one more day. Now, I have a brother in another state that is a PDR technician, so I was immediately suspicious. It really shouldn't take more than an hour or two. Then again, I wanted it done right, so I didn't push them.

Fast forward to today - I have heard nothing all day long, so I call at around 3:00 PM. My advisor didn't answer, so I called and asked for the service manager. He tells me the windshield is finished, and the dent is finished, and they're just getting ready to put on the new clear bra. WTF??!!?? No way in hell did I give them permission to remove my paint protection film. I told them ABSOLUTELY NOT - and that I was on my way in to pick up the car, and they were not to put clear bra on it, and if they already had it on, they were to take it off. (I had top-notch paint protection film on the vehicle from a high-end shop and I did not want mismatched film!).

I am at the dealer in 30 minutes. My car is in the customer service bay being inspected by the service manager. He says, "I'm assuming you'd like to inspect the vehicle?" My reply: "You're damn right!"
I'm still super pissed about the clear bra being removed - and I told the guy that the only reason I relented and agreed to let them try to remove the dent was because I knew I had clear bra and they couldn't scratch the paint. The service manager apologized a dozen times, and he specifically said he told one of the staff to call me and get permission on the clear bra, so he was dumbfounded that they had not called. He said the matter would be handled internally (I hope that means someone got fired before 5 PM...).

It has turned into a bigger ordeal - though the service manager and I were on the same page after I got over being so pissed off. In the end, he was pretty cool about it and extremely apologetic.
The good news: The dent was fully removed to my untrained eye. The windshield was replaced with factory Lexus glass - bonus. They have agreed to pay for my replacement clear bra on the fender.
