Default Forrest's Auto: Was everyone wrong about the RCF?

Thorough review. Agreed with this reviewer on just about everything. Great spirited driving footage near the end.

I like the RCF. My only concern is it's slower than an IS-F and it's not competitive with the German models. Otherwise it's okay.

Back to the same old beaten ISF vs RCF topic. It is not slower than the ISF by any stretch. It has proven to be significantly quicker especially at higher speeds. By 150 mph, we are talking well over 1 seconds difference. Lap time comparisons of several European and American tracks have been posted before where RCF was quicker in all, but the VIR lap. Also, it put down a lap time just 3/10ths off the M4 with Randy Pobst.

I've driven dozens of RC-F and own a 2012 IS-F. They are both slow cars but the IS-F, at least from a "feel" point of view, feels faster and more nimble. I don't know what it does at 150mph because our speed limits here are only 55mph for the most part. Must be nice to live in Canada and drive that fast. That's probably why your perspective is a bit different than mine.

But back to the topic. Obviously the RC-F has some things going for it that are very appealing like a nicer interior, more out-of-the-box options like the TVD, carbon roof, and active rear spoiler. However, from a performance standpoint, the fact that it's even being compared to an I-SF that was released in 2008, in my book, is a failure on Lexus' part. They should've gave this thing way more power being that it's a heavier and larger car and produced in the next generation.

I have driven an ISF as well (2012). Around town at city speeds, I agree RCF does not feel any quicker part-throttle when not using the full rev range. As the review accurately says, when you use the full rev range past 5500 rpm (7450 rpm cut-off), it will truly get up there quick. 0 - 150 mph in 24 seconds. The flat torque curve across the rev range makes it deceptive. I have not had a ticket in more than 6 years and my 3 year daughter is mostly with me. It is only short acceleration bursts for me while merging or going turns quickly here and there.

Nimble is a subjective perception, but I find RCF to be incredibly nimble in sport+ and manual mode (but, I have the TVD, which makes the car hyper-responsive).

Well, this WAS ALREADY covered elsewhere.

If you are SO CONCERNED AND WORRIED ABOUT THE COMPETITION, then go get the ISF OR GO WITH THE GERMANS!!! LOL.

THE ISF is a four door sedan whereas the RCF is a two door coupe.

The RCF fills a nice niche and few, if any peers.

I still get complements everywhere I go withy RCF!!

Been around Lexus for a long time, BUT up until this past March, didn't even know they made a V8!
Don't ever recall seeing one on the road wondering "Wtf is that?" whatsoever. Odd now I think of it.

Guess you could say I was actively bitten by the RCF while debating between 2 American Cars, and 2 German Cars as well. My story is a long one, but what still blows me away is attending local Car Shows / Meets and literally finding this unique Ultrasonic Blue whip is the ONLY one of its kind there! This includes more Ferraris', Porsche's, Shelby's, Lambos, etc - All the cars I dreamed of as a kid filling up huge parking lots-for me to drool over. HOWEVER - How can it be that my RCF is the only (no s***!) one of its kind there?? This my friends, is an awesome feeling, which I will definitely enjoy for as long as humanly possible!

Like Gunny said, I have only seen 2 RCF's, one on the dealership showroom and mine. The are exceptionally rare. I like that.

Yep, hard to beat the attention and admiration this car gets everywhere. I get approached by people randomly all the time.

First off, very good detailed review from the reviewer! Took his time and was pretty thorough.

Next, from this post here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-f-2008-2014/888086-supercharged-rrracing-isf-vs-c7-zo6-vette-1-2-mile-race.html
Rafi, the man himself from rr racing whom owns both the rcf and isf, clearly states here the ISF is the faster car.

Not sure why ISF owners feel the need to make the RCF threads about themselves. I cannot speak for S/C'ed RCF or ISF. Also notice how ISF owners greatly exaggerate weight difference. If you do the math, RCF still has a 0.5 lbs/hp PW advantage and a broader torque plateau that stretches higher. All of this translates to a significantly quicker time for the RCF. Around a race track, I mentioned before RCF is quicker in all tests except 1 odd case at VIR.

I am sure you saw the battle of the Fs where Ray's RCF with only header back exhaust hung even with an ISF with Intake/header/exhaust + RR tune and then Ray's RCF with exhaust got walked by a RCF with header/exhaust.. Stock vs stock, I mentioned 0-200 km/h or 0-150 mph by C&D clearly shows how big the difference stretches past the 1/4 mile.

Also to add, I have to agree with the poster above....kinda disappointing that with TEN YEARS on the ISF (2018 RCF vs 2008 ISF) there is still even a debate on with car is "faster"...especially with more hp/torque.
i still love everything about the RCF though....love seeing them in the road as an F brother. Just didn't see where they were worth it over my '12 F.....I just decided to spend the money on FBO's for the F instead of going through RCF/GSF route. And I'm here to tell you, 100-170, a stock or even exhaust/headers RCF stands nooooo chance against a FBO IS-F. Stock for stock I can't really say, I'd assume it's a drivers race.

V.

Folks, let's not turn this thread into another IS-F vs RC-F thread. There are plenty of other past threads that go into that in great detail.

This sub-forum is for RC-F owners and enthusiasts; let's keep it on the topic of the video.
