Default Door Lock Actuators

Bought my ‘15 USB 2.0 RC F back in October 2015. Its been my daily driver ever since and I just passed 82,000 miles.

Other than new brakes and rotors, 3 sets of tires, and a jealous ex wife with a screw driver there haven’t been any issues until recently.

Took the car to Nalley Roswell near Atlanta to look at the locks and they quoted me close to $1,500 to replace both actuators.

Has as anyone else had to deal with this yet? I’ve seen some older RX threads where people replaced on their own. Thoughts?

82,000 miles?! Wow! And I thought I had a high mileage RCF (52k on mine). So far gone through one set of tires and front brake pads only. I haven't experienced any actuator problems yet but could be something to anticipate for in the future.

Curious why you live in Fla but getting Nally to work on car?
Nally is my local dealer. They’re decent based on my experience but all were warranty work & initial oil changes. Never had to pay out of pocket so not sure if they’re expensive compared to other dealers.
I would just have some shop do it vs dealer.

This actuator problem is an issue with Lexus and Toyota. Lexus is hiding behind the issue. It is so common, that the dealership knew what was wrong before I brought it in. This is throughout Lexus. I just replaced my drivers side door actuator for over $600.

I've had 5 replaced on my 2015 NX200t all under warranty. Now I have another out but I'm Out of warranty.

This lock is $246. HERE but can be found on ebay under 200.

I'm posting this here because it appears this lock is common amongst these models;

yes my understanding is this happens with Lexus. Overall a small problem compared to some brands, but would be nice if they got it figured out.

while not an RCF, the LX forum found out the motor that runs the actuators is a $5 DC motor used in RC cars. You can buy the motors on ebay and open the clamshell of the door actuator replace the motor for $5 and have it working again. I did this on my moms LX and its still kicking strong. Perhaps the RC is similar. Its certainly worth investigating when a new door actuator is also $600 like the LX was. It appears hte same motor is used in other lexus, toyota, mazda, fords. The main thing you have to do is buy the same shaft shape and length. Only way to truly confirm is to maybe find a used one and dissect it.

if you dont feel like component part replacement and hunting it seems there are some rebuilt actuators on ebay for the RC/RCF.

I had a total of 3 times when I would unlock the car with the remote, but the lock would get stuck and not unlock fully (driver side only). I took it to Lexus, they replaced the driver side actuator and cable, along with the passenger side for free. Since then, I've had no problems.

I was told the replacement actuators have stronger motors and the cables are different in length. My service advisor also told me that I was the first RC to come in with this problem at that time (less than a year ago), but he said tons of IS/NX came in for this problem.

you can get a pair from the auction site for under 100.00 and replace them yourself. not hard at all. and they may last longer than the oe actuators!

Whats up guys, new user here. I've had my 2015 RC 350 since Sept '15 and last year it started having problems with the door locks, only the passenger side would unlock but the driver side and the fuel door would remain locked. When I took it to the local dealership they said they needed to replace the passenger side, which I thought was odd bc that side seemed to be working so I requested all of them be replace but they only did the passenger side. So now two weeks ago it acts up again with the exact same issue with the driver door and fuel door and they tell me its out of pocket bc the warranty expired. I then reminded my service rep the video I took of when it was under warranty with the same issue with my written request all of it be fixed and he called me back after 6 hours to said Lexus was going to cover it. All is well Right? ....so I thought...now the doors are working fine but the fuel door keeps getting stuck. I checked the owners manual and learned about the release cord in the trunk but now thats not even working. My question is, do you guys think this should this one have been replace when I mentioned it to them two weeks ago? Or am I just being cheap bc all my money is going towards my damn wedding lmao

Ran across this service bulletin a few weeks ago when I was investigating the sensitivity on the touch/keyless entry on my 15' RC350F.
There is a service bulletin that covers door locks that will not open from remote or smart entry (read actuator). It covers this under warranty for certain 15-16 models up to 48 month and 50k miles.

I can pull it down in TIS but couldn't quickly find a link to share online. You can likely find a copy of it digging deeper. It doesn't if you are out of warranty but it is a recognized problem.

If he is in the panhandle, or North FL, there are no dealers. I was living in panama city and went to Nalley to buy my GX460. The only other option I think was Mobile AL. ATL is a much better place to visit lol
