As this article explains, the Mustang GT is almost 3900 lbs in both trims. Weight is close. Power output is slightly higher on RCF giving similar PWR, but the short gearing of the automatic in Mustang GT makes all the difference. The first 4 gears are stacked very closely and shortly with a numerically high final drive. Short gearing favors low speed acceleration up to 1/8th and 1/4th mile at the cost of high speed acceleration since 5th gear onwards need to be made taller.
"Realistically, the current Mustang GT with the automatic will pull hard through 4th gear, but in 5th and 6th, the overdrive gear ratios lead to substantially slower acceleration."
Misprint in the Lexus article should be corrected... actual font tires are 255 width, not 235.
Rolla - Ford's 10A lower gear spread is what Lexus should've implemented with a gear change on the LC's use of a 10A... the advantages are all right there in the link, 1/2 second better performance in those highly looked at results without need for any hp increase. repeating myself, I know.
