So stoked, I will be at Virginia International Raceway this weekend to cheer on the Lexus Racing/3GT Racing RCF GT3s. Can't wait to see them run again. Saw them last year at Circuit of the Americas
Saw you comment elsewhere.
Sorry I didn't think of it right away- but if you call "The Lodge at VIR" and speak to Tammy.
Ask if "Pit Lane" Rooms are open. Literally that. the Pit Lane Suites, over pristine Garages, and seriously contemporary and exquisite rooms man!
Raced VIR for many, many years and know every inch of that place. It may be more than a "Danville" Motel - but you will NEVER EVER Regret it my friend. Seriously http://virnow.com/lodging/pit-lane-rooms/
was referring to the topic of their facilities being nice for where people and other non-car entities reside while not on track Gunny...but maybe I should've said un-wheeled. The track there has been awesome every time I've been on it, as well as everything around it. Can't believe the Oak Tree of Oak Tree is gone now though, I have to get back there and experience the change, but not looking forward to the missing piece.
Unfortunately yes. The famous Oak Tree was removed a couple years ago, along w the one under the Starters Tower on the straight where the "kink" is. That was a major marking point for what gears and position one should be in. We were just there this past May with Graves Yamaha for Moto-America and of course stayed in those awesome rooms above garages! You're 100% correct - the place exudes class everywhere my man!
Probably telling you guys what you already know but if you want an even classier place than the garage apartments on the property, rent one of the Villas (condos) at the uphill Esses. Newer, more spacious, etc. Further from the paddock but view is nearly as cool. Can rent the upstairs (master and kitchen) and downstairs (smaller 2 bedrooms) separately. Definitely more $$ though, but great if you have a group and can organize meals together, etc.
I hate to say it, but the Oak Tree tavern is on my 'never again' list. Keep getting disappointed over and over with both the food and service. Bar is OK, but at a crowded event it sometimes takes a couple hours to get a burger. I keep getting talked into it and keep regretting it. It's a very charming place, but since the old chef left probably 10 years ago it hasn't been the same.
We're probably going to a BMWCCA event last week of August so my wife can test out new transmission in her car (she'll instruct during the HPDE). Anybody going let me know! Not sure how full it is, but they do a pretty good job with events.
edit, gunny you’ll probably appreciate the wrap the guy who bought my wife’s old racecar put on it this year
