Default How much should I offer?

Hey all, don't know if I'm in the right area for this but looking into an RC F and was thinking of offering 35k for this ride. Am I lowballing or offering too much still?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I was considering that car (at the time it was at a VW dealership in TX) about a month or two back...I think it has bounced around between a few dealerships out there, the three owners seems a little questionable although not necessarily a deal breaker, and in one of the photos they have there seems to be something going on near the wheelwell..not sure if it's just dirty or cracked/busted up paint? Can't see CarFax or Autocheck, so you def need to see what that looks like, but IMO, I don't think they'll accept your offer. I mean, it can't hurt to put it out there, but they might tell you to kick rocks. Or they might counter, you don't know if you don't try...if you're serious, I'd go see it in person and drive it before even putting any real serious thought into the numbers.

Right very true. I was able to see the Carfax the other day but now I can't. Everything looked okay on. Just a lot of dealer cleanings. Looking to spend in the 40s for one. Don't know if I'm being too optimistic though.

It has 17,000 miles on it. $35k offer is ridiculously low. Not sure how you would even consider it "too much" as the car brand new was $70+K at least. $42K for a low mileage RCF (considering everything checks out and it is in good condition), is already a good price. $39K - $40K maybe if you get lucky, but anything lower than will make the dealer not even consider it.

That is definitely a low offer. The low book on that car for trade in is the 38K range with standard equipment. I can't speak for every dealer and most are different, but I have a good friend in the business and a 12.5% is a common markup from the trade in price after they calculate a standard clean up/maintenance and advertisement fee. If you could buy this car for 40k and only pay doc and inventory fees that would be a great buy, but just my opinion.

If you are trading in a vehicle and they kill you on the deal or they are a stealership that can make up the final box number with dealer fees, they might let you talk them down, but I seriously doubt that low. 35K sounds almost like a low auction price which they are not going to pass on to you.

You can see by the Carfax this was certified by Lexus twice, 15k service performed at Lexus and then serviced again at 16k. It's at a Toyota dealership, have them show you the Techstream history.
I would just do your homework and care more about the maintenance of the vehicle than who owned it. Yes I get people fear there being something wrong with the car with high owners, but you never know why people trade. I have kept cars 6 months and 6 years, just depends on how the car fits someone. First 3 owners were for a very short time.

Carfax doesn't look bad except the owners if that bothers you:

I have been shopping for a car as well and most dealers have been VERY unwilling to discount their used cars... especially one that is already a little cheaper than others.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

The dealer site shows the proper carfax link. $7k off a used car is absurd if they are remotely close to pricing to market. If they were at say 103% of price to market, going all the way to 97% would be aggressive already and at that point it's only $2.5k off the price, I'd say good luck even getting $2k off but it all depends on the car's actual condition. Carfax is definitely all over the place with the dealer being counted as an owner twice (you'd be the 5th owner as per Carfax).
