Well....after watching about 15 YouTube reviews, I now have determined, it’s actually both. It’s the switch near the airbox intake that opens ANd it’s a speaker. This might be the best answer yet lol

I've done minimal research on this but would like to learn more. If you got some good links to YouTube, please post. Thanks.

Yes, it's definitely a combination of both.
Very easy to identify. Test drive a car, wait for it to warm up properly, redline it in Sport mode and notice the difference in sound because of intake door opening around 3800 rpm.

Put it in Sport+ mode. If you have decent ears, you can hear the pumped in sound as early as 2200 rpm or so.
Do a few redline runs back and forth between Sport and Sport+.

For that reason, I drive in Sport+ all the time except when cruising long distances on the highway. That bit off drone from pumped sound in Sport+ mode gets on my nerves.

The speaker only gets involved when you're in Sport S+ mode, not Eco/Normal/Sport S. In S+ the sound is enhanced by the speakers. In all ,modes the side intake opens at higher RPM. You can tell the difference by switching from Sport S to Sport S+ and back a few times while keeping RPM relatively the same.

Here's page 207 from the 2015 manual describing the speaker sound enhancement, I particularly like the "helps the driver further enjoy the feeling of unity with the vehicle":

Cool thanks, I was reading that last night in the manual. Another week and I can finish the entire set! Lol

So is this artificial engine noise that is produced electronically through the cars speakers?

Or is it a channel that opens up to allow more actual engine noise to be fed into the cabin?

Whatever it is... Let's not forget the fact it's still a V8 under the hood.
