DIY Invidia Cat back install complete
#46
Looks like I completed a drive cycle..threw a CEL, and I’m sure it’s just a leak. Was I supposed to reuse the oem gaskets from the cat to the midpipe? And on that midpipe to muffler connection that huge gasket where the spring bolts are, does it close completely? Seems like those gaskets leave quite a gap

The only sections that can could throw a cel are the two before the o2 sensors. There’s a lot about these joints and what seals to use because the stocker has a donut gasket. I used the Invidia provided gasket with exhaust copper sealant. I can guarantee my 2015 would have leaked without it because of some rust corrosion on the bottom of the pipe.

This is mine:
I did just a little at the mid pipe ends and I used zero at the rear axle back dounut gaskets since that isn't needed there at all.

I agree with sealant. I was very liberal on mine, both sides of gaskets and around the flange. Though I suspect that eventuall the stuff around the flange will burn up and fall off after a while.

Nigel is right. I used the Invidia gaskets without any sealant and it was fine for over a year. You can see where the leak was in the picture below. I ordered Grimmspeed 7 layer gasket and installed it without having to remove the exhaust or O2 sensors. That fixed the CEL. I did not use any sealant, but it certainly wouldn't hurt.

I’ve had the new Invidia exhaust on for a few weeks now and love them. I used the Invidia gaskets except behind the O2 sensors where I used Grimmspeed‘s along with copper sealant. Those O2 sensors were a real PITA to access with an O2 socket thanks to the metal shields. Invidia’s package was missing 4 nuts so I had to go to Home Depot to finish. Here’s the
YouTube video.

I've got a CEL for the leaking gasket now, PO420, so gotta replace the gaskets and probably will use sealant this time. Disappointed as it's only been 6 months since installing the exhaust but oh well, I expected it. Can anyone provide a link to the gaskets and sealant they used?
