Then, a friend out of state might have to order it for you and then ship it to you as a personal friend. I think that is the only option.

That's odd. I got my RR Racing intake without any issues. I bought intakes for all my cars in the past from out of state and never had any problem. Did you check eBay? Those guys don't give a damn where it goes.

RR intake is only the elbow/tube, but Takeda is a full system including a conical/velocity stack filter so I believe the CARB requirements might be different for each.

I seriously doubt it. If I take my car to the smog check with the RR intake, I'll fail on the spot. I don't think there's any distinction between what kind of intake. If it's not CARB, it's all the same.

I have the Takeda intake and although they say it might make a small power difference, I think it is primarily sound. The guys from RR racing say there is no power increase with just an intake. You need headers and/or exhaust to get any power gain.

It is priced reasonably. From what I have heard, maybe @bajong can confirm, but the intake amplifies the stock cold air intake noise and you hear more roaring noise in the midranges. At high rpm, the intake will be louder than stock. I have had cold air intake (Injen) on my other car for 15 years so I am very familiar with the CAI characteristics. If you try to "lug" the engine, it might make some drone, but would not be an issue if you don't lug the engine (low rpm and high gear).

Some people told me, the throttle response and the midrange feels stronger (which is what the dyno says as well). Though, peak HP is not significantly different. They don't claim any different. Peak HP difference is only 5 whp and then from 7100 rpm to 7400 rpm, there is no gain at all. However, in the midrange from 4000 rpm to 6000 rpm, the torque gain claim is around 10 ft-lbs.

Do these cone filters normally breathe better than the Drop in filter alternative?

Yes. they have a lot higher airflow rate especially the wet ones as it seems to capture air from all angles as opposed to the flat ones that only capture air being fed straight through. However, the ECU only allows up to a certain flow rate and will adjust to what maximum can be allowed.

There is no advertised difference. Wet one has higher airflow rate and it also uses oil to capture contaminants while the dry uses only the filter to capture all contaminants, but is less porous. I don't think it would make a noticeable difference power wise.

Yes, I can confirm this is true...to my experience. Great review by the way!

Im sold, definitely going to pick one of these up before i get the dyno tune so i can make use of the higher air flow and better sound.

OP, i can get one and ship it to you from Arizona if you're interested. PM me.
