Hey! Guys, my front passenger side’s A/C is blowing warm air instead of cold air. So, I went to a SoCal dealership. They did some tests and all that. They concluded that I need my Servo Motor Replaced, Perform Recover and Charge A/C for the price of $3100+/- parts/labor of 22hrs.

I can’t get a print out of the quote texted to me and only through a call.

My car is a 2015 Lexus RCF with 35,500 miles in 5yrs. Not that high of a mileage for the amount of years and then, I get that diagnosis and price of repair. 🤦‍♂️

Any of you guys familiar with this kind of issue?

Edit Update: I emailed Lexus Corp asking about the 20LE01 and complained that I never got it in the mail. They replied within a day and confirmed that my car is included. They told me to call a local Lexus dealership to make an appointment.

I dropped off my car, they reprogrammed the servo motors. Surprisingly, I did not need a $2400 servo motor replacement including labor. But I do need an AC Recharge for $306 with labor instead of $600 plus in Oct 2020.

Total Bill: $306

I got AC on both front driver and passenger sides. And the temp control is more sensitive now in changing cold to warm. If I wanted hotter, gotta wait for car to be at optimal temp.

Thank you so much to the people that mentioned the 20LE01 Service Campaign. And also to the people that chimed in. Now, I got AC before Summer 2021 comes around.

 

Had my 2015 repaired under warranty and would of cost close to 3k. I was told the labor involved accessing servos drove the repair cost. Very common issues.

 

Really? At what year or mileage did you get yours repaired? If it’s common, damn it’ll be $3k every 3yrs+ for AC that I could have used for mods. Lol

 

Had the same issue on my 2017 GS350. 4 servo motors went bad at 19k they replaced all 6 since they had to take the dash out..bill would have been ~$2900. Now I am afraid to change any damn AC setting. I am at 25K now and hoping it does not happen again.

 

It must be the same crappy motor with a plastic worm gear inside the unit that Lexus uses throughout their product lines. If you search under all models, you'll find hundreds of posts on this issue. I had the same problem on my IS300 (1st gen) but I was able to replace them myself since it wasn't too difficult to get to. The temp control motor is usually first to go because it has to adjust more often. Do you typically leave your climate control on auto? That would increase the duty cycle of the motor.

Did it with my 2015 under warranty. I think they said it was 3 servos they replaced. Had to take the dash apart to do it. Also had servo issues with my wife's 2019 RC-F. My car had about 12k miles, hers was under 5k. I decided to not buy the extended warranty when my 2015 came due for it and whenever I see posts like this I think I may have made a mistake...

 

I had mine done about 6 months ago under warranty. They replaced 4 of them. Never took the dash apart and it took about 4 hours. The 4 they replaced were on the driver's side and center. Maybe the passenger side requires removal of the dash?

The dealer told me it's a common problem across all Toyota products from the past many years. I don't understand why they can't get a permanent fix for this.

 

What a bummer man! Probably one cheap small part and you have to pay all the labor to take the dash apart.

 

Interesting because the other day I went to put the heat on and I noticed that j my y fan blowers were not blowing at all in any setting. It was making noise as if it was somewhat blowing but just not blowing any air in any setting. The next morning it worked fine. Symptom of something failing that’s for sure.

 

At what mileage do they start failing?

 

When I bought my 2015 with 6,900 miles, I had this issue which was covered under warranty....

Although replacement wasn't needed, they re-initialized the servo's if I recall correctly.


I'm surprised its more of a common issue than I would have suspected.

Now that I think about it, I also had a similar issue with my 2003 IS300 years ago....

 

What I was told is that it's not a common problem, but, it's also not unheard of. It goes back over 10 years from what the dealer told me.

 

Wow such a coincidence. My AC is blowing hot air on driver side and cool air at passenger. I had a cheap OBDII adapter I got from ebay and downloaded Techstream software. Watched Youtube regarding Lexus AC servo initialization process. First time ran the initialization and some mode now works better (air flow to proper vent) and driver side not as warm but air flow is much higher. Looked at the error log and shows "B1453 Air Outlet Damper Cool Control Servo Motor Circuit (Driver Side)" - Malfunction is Present. Ran a few more time the servo initialization process and now driver side is blowing cold air and higher air flow. I know I still need to change the servo but at least I narrow down what servo failed. Waiting on service manager to tell me what part number to order and may have them install or attempt to install myself. Each servo cost between $158 to $185 at lexuspartsnow.com. Alot of youtube video show how to change the AC servos. Search for 3rd Gen IS AC servo (3rd Gen IS is same as RC). Should not take more than a few hours to replace all the servos if necessary (not 22 hours as stated on first post). There are video on how to remove the access for both driver and passenger area to access servo on Youtube.

Happy to get cold air again. Was getting 105 degrees at driver foot area.
