Lightbulb Parking Brake adjustment? Maybe low pad life?

I was wondering if anyone has had to adjust their parking brake and knows how to do it? I have about 10K miles on my RCF and I am not sure if I am just forgetting how it used to be or if this is how it has always been.

I have to push the parking brake all the way to the ground to get the car to hold. Is anyone else's like this? I tried pushing it a normal distance and putting the car in neutral on a slight decline and it rolled. It should not be doing that.

Is it possible as the brake pads wear down the parking brake will be less effective? I also found this thread from the LS, I am wondering if our parking brake adjustment procedure is the same: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...ncy-brake.html

I do not know if this is an item covered by warranty either. If it is something simple, I don't mind taking care of it myself.

Thanks in advance!

You have to kick it pretty hard. Never got any adjustment, but yeah it holds well if you press it all the way down.

While in a slow Reverse, apply the emergency/parking brake to stop the car.
Repeat again and again until the emergency/parking pedal, when applied, rises to normal height.
If no change, replace the shoes inside the rear hub.

That’s a neat trick to rotate the adjuster.!
I usually just spun it by hand. What was I doing all these years...haha

I didnt really notice much of an effect with the reverse method. I did it several times. I took the rear wheels off and the wheels rotors were fairly hard to spin even with the e-brake off. I wanted to make sure everything looked good and it did. So I just left it alone. Figured it might have been a pedal issue than the shoe issue.

Can anyone else confirm how many notches it takes to fully engage the car? Mine is at 5, and it goes to about 8-9 notches.

I bought a 15 IS 350 and a RCF TE and both e brakes have never held or worked since day one. Park car, hit e brake and car lurched forward. I tried reverse trick with no luck either.

The parking brakes are small drum brakes inside the rear rotors. Take wheel off, put car in neutral, pop the rubber cover off, use a flat head screw driver to spin the adjuster. I always tighten until you can't spin the wheel by hand, then loosen a click or two. Holds every time.

Do you think that's a drum issue or a pedal issue? My brake pedal holds pretty well I'd say, but only if I press the pedal all the way down and put some effort into it.

I just do not know why a car that was not abused, drifted, or anything like that would have this "issue"

typically it's a drum issue, just needs to be adjusted. The pedal only has so much travel, if drum is too loose then the pedal will bottom out before fully engaging the brake.

I have the same setup in my Infiniti. On that car, adjustment is more important since it's a manual. Most people with autos never use their parking brake so don't notice when it needs adjustment.

The linkage is loose, cable stretches.
the drum is your rotors and those rotate around the shoes. Yes shoes do wear down after a while.
