4A-GE BT were underpowered for their 160 HP rating. It is widely undisputed on club4age. I read it was done mostly to match the EM2 Civic SI output, but it was not really putting out that much. A healthy stock 2ZZ-GE was putting out 159 - 162 whp while 4AGE BT stock were known to put out around 130 - 135 whp. While they had ITBs, there is no comparison with 2ZZ-GE as far as specific output or technology. Great for its time in the 80s and 90s, but was antiquated by comparison. I agree 3S-GE BEAMS was a great engine that had 200 HP and 150 ft-lbs dual-VVT-i, but its main flaw was it was too heavy for a compact FR platform because of cast iron block. The Altezza was 3100 lbs, which was not that much lighter than the IS300. Formula Atlantic was not a street-legal/production engine so I cannot say much on it.

When Formula Atlantic series ran at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the sound of 10k RPM going down Shoreline is amazing. Compare and contrast the buzzy sounds of 7th Gen Celicas at the Pro Celebrity Race. It just doesn't do it for me, sorry.

Have you ever driven an Altezza with a Beams 3S-GE? I'm going to guess no. Ever hear a stock 4A-GE Blacktop in person...it sounds awesome in comparison to the 2ZZ.

I know Club4AG well, Moto is a close personal friend of mine. You've probably read his LFA stories too. I let him drive it.

No but they are high revving, healthy DOHC engines. I've driven 2ZZ in the Celica and Corolla XRS. Boring sorry.

I am talking objectively. I hope you realize the Altezza was significantly slower than the Celica GTS (or Corolla XRS) because of its hp/lbs. Yeah, sure oversteer/drifting is cool/lots of fun and so is touge, which is why I went FR from FWD. However, you argument is about strictly engine performance. The 4A-GE, I already said enough about it above. Besides, your argument of torque completely falls apart as these engines did not have better low-end torque delivery for their respective weight than the 2500 - 2600 lbs 2ZZ cars.

Also, not sure what to say about the "boring" comment. Never heard that in my 16 years. I am sure in a poll no one would agree with you.,

Faisal, I'll take a slow RWD Altezza with a 4cylinder that has better aftermarket support over a FWD Corolla XRS any day. I'm not looking for anyone to agree with me. It's my assessment. I'm not even talking about torque or hp. I'm just posting my opinion. If you don't like it, that's fine...we can agree to disagree.

I agree. RWD > FWD. It is just physics. No arguments.

I’m just trying to understand why you don’t like chocolate and why you like licorice. That’s what’s going on right now. 🤣

You came into a thread with current and past 2zz owners and told them it sucks. I’m trying to find the logic in that.
