Default Buy now or wait

I have been looking at an RC F lately, and if I recall correctly, prices are quite a bit higher than they used to be last year.

Would waiting 6+ months be worth it in case they drop $5k or more?

For reference, the best online and local deals I am seeing are 2015's with perf package with 35-50K miles going for around $45-47k.

What would the price normally be with no pandemic, low 40's?

Correct. About a year ago, 2015/2016 RCFs with relatively higher mileage were in low-to-mid 40s. Now, the 2015s with standard packages in the high-40s and the performance package with low mileage can be in the low-50s. The chip shortage is projected to last at least 1 year or probably longer. The market situation might get worse before it gets better.

If you can buy a carbon fiber/TVD performance in good condition, clean record and decent mileage for $47K then I would say go for it as it is a good price.

The OP is not looking for a very high mileage RCF so that $38K is not a good deal at all especially when there is no record of it having seen a Lexus dealership in 3 years and has nearly 100K miles on it. There is literally no history of how it was maintained between 56K miles and 100K miles. That is why it is so cheap because of high mileage and shady maintenance records. It is barely more than those used regular RCs at Carvana. The OP needs to look at the totality of it. The mileage, records, conditions, option packages and pricing.

Relax, there are plenty of other RCF on carvana, they get every flavor anyone could want.

There are 3 I can see and that $47K miles blue carbon/TVD is the only one I would recommend to the OP as it is a great deal using the criteria I mentioned above. I am totally relaxed. I raised my concerns over your recommendation to the OP without reading into the fine print and having a healthy degree of skepticism with the thinking of "if it sounds too good to be true, it most like is". That is all.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Right now my main options are 3 2015's with the premium package:
  • One owner in Arizona 2015 43k miles -$47k : No maintenance records but it could have been privately done
  • 3 Owners all owned up north(worried about rust tbh) with 36k miles- : 47k
  • 3 Owners in Arizona 2015 with 65k miles for $43k

Things are just really ugly out there. In May I gave in and paid the $5000 COVID tax. I have no regrets I say go for it because the tax on Porsches and Vettes are far worse.

I always see red flags with a car like RCF that has not been taken to the dealership for extended periods of time since all of the suspension components, linkages etc. all need to be checked over time especially since many of these are driven hard. They are not treated for sure for the most part like owners of ES, LS, GS, RC or IS do. Privately done usually means bare minimum work (mostly, just oil changes) in order to by pass the maintenance and labor cost etc. For example, when I take my F to the dealership, the maintenance and inspection includes re-torquing some linkages and joints at certain intervals. If that was not done, the car would still keep running without any issues, but the wear and tear will pile up over time. That minimalistic approach has a cumulative effect on the longevity of the parts and components.

Of the three, the first one seems to be the best option. The Carvana carbon/TVD RCF in blue for $47K above seems to be a better deal than anyone of these, though.

You could make a small trip to FL and buy what appears to be one of the nicest CF package RC-F's available: (I don't know this person)

Wow! Good find. A garage queen with only 4000 miles on it. I can understand the $56K asking price as it is practically brand new. Good to grab a 2015 or 2016 especially with carbon/TVD since RR racing tune is available only for these two years. As a matter of fact, RR racing tune is my next mod as a project during the winter months in the garage.

I don't necessarily see a $5k drop in 6 months time being particularly realistic or likely, but then again, I also didn't expect that my car (which was purchased used in 2018) would be worth $10k more in 2021 ...point being, you can't accurately predict the future, so if you want the car now, buy it now because it's all really just speculation. Every time I've thought I was smarter than the market because I researched extensively and factored in my personal experience, logic, statistics, etc...I have gotten burned, whether it was with car values, stocks, real estate, etc. The only thing I would possibly suggest waiting on is the "right" car for you, based on what you determine makes up your checklist. Features, mileage, color combo, CPO vs non-CPO, etc. Be patient on those things and you should come out of this with a great car that you should be happy with.

Wow that is a clean low mileage car!

Trying to keep it around 50k max and the best option I have found so far is a 2017 with 35k miles for $50,000

Color is white which is my second choice but it does seem like a great deal compared to anything else 500 miles around except the one you posted. 1 owner, no accidents, stratus grey interior and still under warranty

hard to say if prices will get any better. I say buy now or wait an indefinite amount of time for the prices to come down
